The next few weeks are vital for Enzo Maresca’s future as Chelsea manager, with the Blues having two huge chances for glory currently on their plate before the end of 2024/25.

They face a huge battle for a place in the top five of the Premier League, subsequently securing them Champions League football, whilst also having the chance to win the Europa Conference League.

It remains to be seen if the Italian will be in charge next season should he fail to achieve both of their goals, undoubtedly falling well below the expectations set upon his appointment.

Regardless of what Maresca is able to accomplish between now and the end of May, more signings are expected this summer, to help the side edge one step closer to battling for a title.

The hierarchy have wasted no time in targeting reinforcements, with one player already in the frame over a potential summer move to Stamford Bridge.

The latest on Chelsea’s hunt to land Dean Huijsen

Over the last couple of days, Chelsea have made huge progress in their pursuit of landing Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, but still face serious competition from elsewhere.

Real Madrid and fellow Premier League sides Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have all been credited with interest in the 19-year-old who has a £50m release clause in his contract.

However, one report has claimed that the Blues have held multiple rounds of talks with the defender’s representatives over a potential deal to move to West London.

It remains to whether Huijsen would want a move to Maresca’s side, but the signs are all positive – especially considering his team are still open to negotiations with the club’s hierarchy.

Despite the interest in the Spaniard’s signature, the club already have their own superb talent who’s valued more than Huijsen – highlighting the excellent work the club have done in previous years.

The Chelsea star who’s worth even more than Huijsen

Chelsea have done tremendous work in the transfer market over recent years, getting themselves some bargains even though they’ve spent over £1.2b since 2022.

Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo have both cemented their places in the first-team, starring frequently this season, with the latter undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the division – as seen by his Team of the Year nomination.

However, despite the success with the additions, they’ve also managed to develop countless homegrown talents, numerous of which have played a key role in Maresca’s side.

Levi Colwill is just one of those academy players to make the step-up into the professional ranks, missing just three league games in 2024/25 – showcasing his importance to the side.

The 22-year-old has been the most consistent figure at the heart of the backline, going from strength to strength with increased minutes in West London.

When delving into his stats from the current season, it’s evident how impressive he’s been, more than deserving of his place in the England setup over the last couple of months.

Colwill, who’s been labelled “superb” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has managed a 90% pass accuracy in the Premier League, whilst also managing to win 2.6 aerial battles per 90 – having a huge impact at both ends of the pitch.

As a result of his performances to date, his market value has soared, now valued at £47m by Transfermarkt – a figure higher than that of Huijsen, who’s only valued at £36m.

Given his rise, the club should put more resources into developing young talent, reaping the rewards in the long-term, just as they have done with the 22-year-old.

However, that being said, a partnership of Colwill and Huijsen at the heart of the defence could set them up for future success down the line, given the pair’s tender ages.

Ronaldo was joined at the black-tie event by his fiancée Georgina Rodriguez, and they both posed for a selfie with Elon Musk at one stage.

  Ronaldo attended the high-profile event alongside a host of world business and technology leaders, including Tesla and X boss Musk. The black-tie affair was organised to deepen ties between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, and it was Ronaldo's first known appearance on American soil since 2016. His attendance with the Saudi delegation highlights his role as a public face for the kingdom's recent diplomatic and sports investments. Trump began the dinner with a speech, recognizing the gathering of "unbelievable dignitaries" such as FIFA president Gianni Infantino, a number of billionaires, and prominent business leaders. 

  The United States are joint-hosts of next year’s World Cup, alongside Canada and Mexico, and Portugal qualified for the event earlier this week without CR7, who sat their final game against Armenia out through suspension following his first-ever international red card during the qualifier with the Republic of Ireland. However, Trump still singled out Ronaldo with a special tribute in his speech.

  Ronaldo recently interacted with the President, sending him a signed jersey with the inscription, "To President Donald J. Trump, Playing for Peace". The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star said at the time: "He is one of the guys who can help to change the world. One of the most important guys is the U.S. President. If we can help each other to make this happen… He is one of the guys I wish to meet to sit and have a nice talk. If it is here, or in the U.S., wherever he wants, I know he was here in Saudi Arabia with our boss, MBS. I wish one day to meet him."

  World Cup worry for Portugal

  Ronaldo was among the first to congratulate Portugal on their World Cup qualification after seeing his international colleagues complete a nine-goal rout of Armenia and will get to grace yet another major international tournament. Portugal boss Roberto Martinez faces missing his talisman for their World Cup opener when the tournament kicks off next June, because Ronaldo still has two games left to serve of his suspension for elbowing an opponent, but an appeal will reportedly be launched.

  Martinez said: "After the game it’s a difficult time because emotions can be unclear. I saw his reaction to a provocation. It started at the beginning of the game, in every play in the penalty area. It even started the day before in the press conference. And it was a reaction of trying to continue playing. Others might fall to the ground and look for a penalty. It’s not a violent action, it’s not a red card for violence, but a reaction to a provocation. We need to try to show the case and prepare well. I would say it would be very unfair to impose a long suspension." 

  Ronaldo has already made it very clear that, at the age of 41, the 2026 World Cup will be his last.

O sistema é previsível. A incompetência, não.

A anestesia da zona cinzenta

Esses dois casos escancaram uma realidade incômoda. Não existe mais zona de conforto na tabela. A faixa intermediária anestesia. Nem cai, nem chega. O problema é que hoje quem apenas se mantém está parado. A inércia é o primeiro passo do retrocesso.

Menos jogos no estadual significam menos bilheteria, menos vitrine, menos ativação comercial e menos margem de correção. Quem erra cedo, paga caro. Para clubes fora da elite financeira, isso pode significar eliminação precoce, colapso de orçamento e instabilidade técnica já no primeiro semestre.

Quando o tempo vira adversário

O Brasileiro começando mais cedo também muda tudo. Janela comprimida, pré-temporada encurtada, elenco sendo ajustado com competição valendo. Erro agora custa ponto. E ponto custa divisão.

O torcedor não interpreta, ele reage

Alguns dirigentes ainda se enganam dizendo que “o torcedor entende”. Não entende. Torcedor reage a desempenho. Se cai cedo no estadual, começa mal o Brasileiro e perde clássicos, o engajamento despenca. E sem engajamento, não há patrocínio que se sustente nem projeto que sobreviva.

O fim do improviso como estratégia

O que estamos vivendo não é só uma mudança de calendário. É uma mudança estrutural de lógica. O futebol brasileiro está sendo empurrado para trabalhar com eficiência, não mais com volume. Com método, não com improviso.

E aqui está a verdade que poucos gostam de encarar. Rebaixamento não é acidente. É consequência. Consequência de decisões empilhadas, diagnósticos mal feitos e de uma cultura que ainda resiste à profissionalização plena.

O campeonato acabou domingo. Mas o jogo real de 2026 já começou. E ele não vai perdoar quem insistir em jogar com as regras do passado.

In 2022, pitcher Alek Manoah was the toast of Toronto, having nearly won a Cy Young Award as a sophomore for a 92-win Blue Jays team. With the second-lowest seasonal ERA (2.24) in team history in his back pocket, the future seemed limitless.

Multiple injuries and demotions later, Manoah is simply trying to save his career. Perhaps sensing a potential low-risk flier, the Braves claimed the Homestead, Fla., native off waivers Friday with three games to go in the regular season.

Manoah has not pitched in the big leagues this year after undergoing UCL surgery in 2024. He did pitch for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, starting seven games and going 1–1 with a 2.97 ERA and 30 strikeouts.

In five big-league starts in 2024, he went 1–2 with a 3.70 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings. He struggled to a 5.87 ERA in 19 starts in '23, going 3–9.

Atlanta, which is finishing 2025 strong after months of poor play, hosts the Pirates in a three-game set beginning Friday to close out the franchise's 150th season.

وتُعد تلك هي النسخة الأولى من بطولة كأس العالم، بعد استحداث نظامها، حيث سيشارك فيها 48 منتخبًا، سيتم تقسيمهم على 12 مجموعة، ويتأهل متصدر ووصيف كل مجموعة إلى دور الـ32، بالإضافة إلى أفضل 8 منتخبات في مركز ثالث.

وشهدت القرعة تواجد كل من: بلجيكا، مصر، إيران ونيوزيلندا في المجموعة السابعة في بطولة كأس العالم الصيف المقبل (لمطالعة التفاصيل كاملة عن القرعة من هنا).

وقالت صحيفة “7sur7” البلجيكية: “يعرف الشياطين الحمر الآن مصيرهم، وقد وقعوا في مجموعة سهلة نسبيًا، نظريًا ستكون مصر أقوى منافس لـ بلجيكا في المجموعة السابعة من كأس العالم، إيران ونيوزيلندا هما الفريقان الآخران في المجموعة، يستهل الشياطين مشوارهم في كأس العالم بمواجهة الفراعنة في 15 يونيو في لوس أنجلوس”.

وأضافت: “ستكون مصر أول منافس لـ بلجيكا في كأس العالم، في 15 يونيو في لوس أنجلوس، وهي نظريًا المنافس الأصعب في مجموعتها، في الواقع، الفراعنة هم ملوك إفريقيا برقم قياسي في الفوز بكأس الأمم الإفريقية سبع مرات، لقد هيمنوا بوضوح على مجموعتهم في التصفيات، (ثمانية انتصارات وتعادلين)، دون أي خسارة، لكنهم لم يتألقوا بعد في كأس العالم، ففي ثلاث مشاركات، لم تفز مصر بأي مباراة في البطولة، وهي إحصائية سلبية سيسعى محمد صلاح وزملاؤه جاهدين لتغييرها الصيف المقبل”.

بينما قالت صحيفة “standaard” البلجيكية: “تبشر القرعة التي تواجد بها منتخب بلجيكا بإمكانية استمرار الشياطين الحمر في البطولة، مع العلم إنه في حال تصدر بلجيكا للمجموعة، ستواجه فريقًا يحتل المركز الثالث من مجموعة أخرى، ولو احتلت المركز الثاني، ستواجه ثاني المجموعة الرابعة التي تضم الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، باراجواي وأستراليا، أسهل مجموعة نظريًا”.

في حين قالت صحيفة “hln” البلجيكية: “الشياطين الحمر يواجهون محمد صلاح! ستواجه بلجيكا منتخب مصر، وهو منتخب غاب عن كأس العالم 2022 في قطر لكنه تأهل الآن إلى كأس العالم 2026 متصدرًا مجموعته، ومثل الشياطين الحمر، لم يخسر المصريون أي مباراة في التصفيات”.

وأوضحت: “على الرغم من مشاركاتهم الثلاث السابقة، تسعى مصر لتحقيق أول فوز لها في كأس العالم، نجم الفريق هو محمد صلاح، ومدربه هو المهاجم السابق حسام حسن، ويُعد الفائز بكأس الأمم الإفريقية 7 مرات، خصمًا قويًا، لا يُضاهي إيران، ولكن من ناحية أخرى لن يُشكل المصريون أي مشكلة للشياطين الحمر”.

أما صحيفة “brf” البلجيكية فقد قالت: “أوقعت القرعة بلجيكا في مواجهة مصر، التي تشارك في كأس العالم لكرة القدم لأول مرة منذ عام 2018، وستكون هذه المشاركة الرابعة لمصر في كأس العالم، وستخوض بلجيكا مباراتها الافتتاحية ضد مصر في 15 يونيو 2026”.

من جهة أخرى، قالت صحيفة “sudinfo” البلجيكية: “قبل ستة أشهر من انطلاق كأس العالم، اكتشف الشياطين الحمر منافسيهم في دور المجموعات، ولا شك أن المدرب رودي جارسيا سيكون سعيدًا نسبيًا بترتيب فريقه في المجموعة السابعة إلى جانب إيران ومصر ونيوزيلندا”.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers to open the second half of the season. Los Angeles stopped the three-game slide with a win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night but it was back to the bad habits in a 10-7 loss on Tuesday, the club's seventh defeat in its last 10 games. The suddenly mistake-prone Dodgers made two more errors, each of which cost the team a run—and the latter of which resembled something you'd see from a little league team, and not one of the best teams in the majors.

But it hasn't just been poor fielding that has sunk these Dodgers lately. It's been nearly every facet of the game. Since July 4, a 14 game stretch, the Dodgers have averaged just 3.4 runs per game and its injury-ravaged pitching staff has yielded an average of 5.9 per contest. That's far from a winning recipe.

And manager Dave Roberts sincerely hopes that things don't get much worse.

"It better be rock bottom," Roberts told reporters after Tuesday's loss. "As far as how we've been pitching, how we've been playing defense. I think the offense is kind of starting to tick up, which is good. There's certainly more in there. But I think as far as quality of baseball, it's been a tough watch. It really has."

Perhaps the only fortunate part of this slump for the Dodgers is its timing: a week before MLB's trade deadline, which will give Dodgers brass a chance to perhaps jolt the roster with some imports, ideally in the form of some late-inning relievers to ease the club's overtaxed bullpen.

Other than that, it's on Los Angeles to pull itself out of this free fall. As the Dodgers look to maintain a 3.5-game lead in the National League West, the club's next five series will come against teams above .500.

In a trade deadline stunner, Carlos Correa is headed back to the team he won the World Series with in 2017. According to multiple reports, the three-time All-Star has been traded from the Twins to the Astros.

Correa, 30, is set to move to third base in Houston to finish the season in place of the injured Issac Paredes and upon his arrival, sent a fired-up message to Astros fans:

"I’m coming home and there’s only one goal in mind," he told Brian McTaggart in an interview with MLB.com. "And that’s to win championships."

Houston has been an MLB juggernaut over the last decade, playing in four World Series' since 2017 and winning two of them. Correa won one, and will now look to win another as the Astros sit at 62–47 and in first place in the American League West. The infielder is hitting .267 this season with seven home runs and 31 RBIs.
