WHAT HARRY KANE SAID
Kane has told his channel of lining up against some familiar faces: “It’s obviously still a few months away yet, but it will be great to see some of the guys again – especially after having a couple of successful seasons each, and just to see how they are getting on. In our stadium, in front of our fans as well, it will be a great match up and hopefully a great game.”
Sunderland have agreed a deal to sell a first-team player who is on his way to seal a Stadium of Light exit in the coming days.
Sunderland exit rumours
The Black Cats are on course to finish in the Championship playoff places at the very least in what has been a successful season on the whole so far under Regis Le Bris.
Sunderland have been in the automatic promotion picture for large parts of the season, however, defeats to Leeds United and Hull City last month have seen them fall eight points behind second-place Sheffield United.

Should Le Bris’ side fail to be promoted, then it looks as if numerous clubs could come sniffing for some of their exciting young stars in the summer transfer market.
For example, it has been claimed recently that Crystal Palace already have their eyes on both Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham, whereas Eliezer Mayenda is the subject of “interest” from several Premier League clubs.
Another attacker who has been heavily linked with a move away has been winger Jewison Bennette. There have been talks with Ukrainian side LNZ Cherkasy for the 20-year-old’s services, and the transfer market in Ukraine doesn’t close until March 11.
Now, it looks as if there has been a breakthrough in regards to an exit for Bennette, who is currently on £5,000-a-week at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland agree deal to sell £5,000-a-week player
According to Ihor Burbas, relayed by Sunderland AFC News, Bennette is on his way to LNZ Cherkasy from Sunderland after the two clubs seemingly agreed on a transfer fee.
It is stated that the Black Cats are set to bring in €500,000 (£418,000) for the attacker’s services, a loss on the reported €1.2m (£1m) they paid to sign Bennette back in 2022.
It does appear to make sense for the winger to move on, especially as he saw a January deadline day move to Charlton Athletic fall through, with Le Bris playing him just once all season.
Bennette did have a fan in former boss Tony Mowbray, though, who praised the youngster for getting on the bus home with fans after a match against Preston North End back in 2022.
"From what I hear" – Ex-scout reveals two Sunderland prospects could leave
This will be a concern for Regis Le Bris.
1 ByHenry Jackson Mar 3, 2025
“The legendary Sunderland players of the past. They used to get on the bus. I thought it was great – he’s a lad who is acclimatising and he’s got his dad with him.
“After Watford and his dad hadn’t arranged his trip home. He’d got to Watford and he was stood there and he didn’t know how he was getting home so we allowed him to come on the team coach with us and sit with his son.
“I mean, just the reality of it, he’s come round the world from Costa Rica to watch his son play footy. He didn’t have a clue where Watford was! I was trying to get across to him ‘you’re not on the team bus every game’! But yeah, great that there he is getting on public transport.”
Liverpool have been in contact with the representatives of an “incredible” player ahead of the summer transfer window, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed.
Liverpool in need of summer attacking signings
The Reds are still having a superb season, and defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United shouldn’t change that, but it has highlighted the need for attacking reinforcements this summer.
Mohamed Salah has enjoyed a sensational campaign, while Cody Gakpo has also shone, but there are question marks over the futures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Diogo Jota is substituted off for Liverpool
All three have had up-and-down seasons, with Diaz the best of the three, but arguably not at the world-class level Sadio Mane was at when he starred on the left wing for Liverpool. Nunez is still a frustrating player to watch both in and out of possession, while Jota looks like injuries could be catching up with him. He has only scored twice in 2025 to date.
A new centre forward is essential for Arne Slot come the end of the campaign, with Newcastle ace Alexander Isak arguably the top option to come in. Now, a fresh update has dropped regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of him.
Liverpool in talks to sign "incredible" £160m star
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday [via The Metro], Romano claimed that Liverpool and by extension FSG have been in contact with Isak’s people, as they look to beat Arsenal to his signature in the summer window:
“Newcastle keep insisting in private and in public that they want to keep Alexander Isak. They hope to be in the Champions League next season but, in any case, they want to keep Alexander Isak at the club, so that’s the message from Newcastle. But I keep telling you that big, big, massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak because Arsenal will be there, Arsenal want Isak.
“[Benjamin] Sesko is the other name on the list but, for sure, Isak and Sesko are the main names. Liverpool are also there for Alexander Isak, they already made some contacts with people close to the player, so both clubs are interested in Alexander Isak. For Arsenal, he is the absolute top target. For Liverpool, he’s one of names they are considering in that position.”
This is another encouraging update, with Isak a player who could transform Liverpool as an attacking force, standing out as arguably Europe’s most in-form striker this season.
The 25-year-old, valued at a whopping £160m, is coming into his absolute peak years, recently being described as “incredible” by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, and he could be the next great striker at Anfield.
The one concern would be a questionable injury record down the years, so he would be a slight risk if huge money was spent on him, but he has started 25 games in the Premier League this season, which bodes well moving forward, with 19 goals coming his way in the competition.
Slot has a "world-class" 19-year-old who can end Diaz's Liverpool career
Liverpool need to make changes in the transfer market this summer.
ByAngus Sinclair Mar 18, 2025
Isak has all the attributes to excel under Slot, whether it be great finishing, a silky touch or pace to run in behind, and he could be a game-changer of an addition if Liverpool can sign him over Arsenal.
David Warner wants to bid farewell to Test cricket on his homeground at the SCG next year, in the New Year’s Test against Pakistan. That will be one staging post towards a complete exit from the international game, with Warner hoping his final game in Australia colours is at the 2024 T20 World Cup.That Warner gets as far as that Sydney Test is not guaranteed given his recent Test form. And the glut of cricket between now and then, especially for an all-format opener, makes it even trickier. But it means, in effect, this Ashes could be the last time Warner plays a Test away from home.Warner is gearing up for what could be as many as six Tests in eight weeks, a World Test Championship (WTC) final against India next week, followed swiftly by the Ashes. His recent Test form has been poor, aggravated by an elbow fracture that ruled him out of the second half of Australia’s Test series in India.”I’ve always said the [2024 T20] World Cup will be my final game, but I think I probably owe it to myself and my family,” Warner said ahead of a training session in Beckenham in the lead up to the WTC final. “If I can score runs here, continue to play back in Australia, I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies [Test] series. If I get through this and I can make the Pakistan series, I will definitely finish up then.”Warner played his 100th Test against South Africa at the MCG last summer, lighting up the Boxing Day Test a with a double-hundred. In March, Ricky Ponting said that the double-hundred was the ideal opportunity for Warner to say goodbye to red-ball cricket. That hundred was his first since January 2020. Since the start of 2022, the issue has become more acute: he’s averaging 26 since then with just two fifties and a hundred in his last 24 innings.”For me I’ve always played every game as if it’s my last,” Warner said. “That’s my style of cricket. I enjoy being around the guys, I love being part of the team, trying to be that ball of energy in the group. I want to just keep working as hard as I can to get there.”The amount of cricket Australia are scheduled to play to that point, however, will be a factor in deciding how far Warner does get. After the English summer, Australia have white-ball commitments in South Africa and India, before the 50-over World Cup. Right after the tournament, they stay on to play a T20I series against India.”Going back 12 months, [the schedule] looked very daunting,” Warner said. “Whether or not you’re going to play this Test before this series, given there is a World Cup as well, and we have South Africa as well. And then cricket on the back end of the World Cup in India. Leading into a home summer it’s going to be exhausting and I think the boys, rightfully so, the selectors have been speaking to them about the series that we are priding ourselves on. This [WTC] championship, the Ashes, then the World Cup, the big one.”For us, we have to be up and about. The senior players have to put our hands up, take wickets and score a lot of runs, for us to be on top. If we can manage that and do that, whatever the future throws at the team, we will be able to handle it.”If Warner does get to that Test farewell, it will leave him to prepare for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in the West Indies and USA in middle of next year. That may involve him looking for various franchise deals from February onwards.”I want to play that 2024 World Cup, it’s something at the backend of my mind. We’ve got a lot of cricket before that. And then I think it stops from February. For me, then I have to play the IPL, some of the other franchise leagues and then get into the rhythm to play that, in June. Will be a bit of cricket around to play.”
Dawid Malan century keeps hosts on front foot in first outing after bleak winter
David Hopps07-Apr-2023An elderly Headingley cricket historian observing Rehan Ahmed’s attempts to build on his achievement as England’s youngest Test cricketer might just have recalled the experience of one of Yorkshire’s most famous sons, Brian Close, the man who until last winter held that claim to fame for 70 years and more, and reflected that no matter how great Rehan’s talent, building on his breakthrough won’t necessarily be all plain sailing. It is one thing for rich potential to be recognised by an England leadership team with gamblers’ instincts – debuts granted in all three international formats by the age of 18, including five wickets in a Test debut in Karachi, which unsurprisingly brought the happy pronouncement that it was the best day of his life. But it’s another challenge entirely to build the foundations on pitches in an English spring to support a reputation already granted. Leicestershire’s has begun that task over the past two days at Headingley and, if the pitch was still slow and the breeze still chilly, at least this time there was sun to provide some encouragement.Rehan collected three for 89 in 15 overs which was a bit of an escape considering that Yorkshire racked up 517 at more than five an over. His first over, on the previous day, had gone for 22, including a shoulder-high full toss, and his start to the second day was not much better, 15 conceded this time as the nightwatchman, Matt Milnes, collected three boundaries on his way to 75 from 105 balls. Milnes made room to good effect and played him comfortably, his innings ending lbw during Michael Finan’s unpredictable spell with the second new ball. The ghost of Closey might well have popped up when Rehan’s satisfaction was at its lowest, jabbing him meaningfully in the chest, and telling him to pull himself together. There would have been no need to be offended if he had because he told everybody that. Close made his own debut at 18 against New Zealand in 1949, his National Service delayed for the privilege, and went on to do the Double that season of 1,000 first-class runs and 100 wickets, but even though he became one of the most loved players in Yorkshire’s history, and skippered England 17 years after that Test debut, his international career always spluttered along, his immense talent too often betrayed by a wandering mind.If there is any point in this comparison across the ages, it is to remark that it is unfair to expect too much from someone acclaimed so young. Reputation can hang heavily, even for a player who is widely praised by those in the know for his quiet maturity and level-headedness, an accolade rarely enjoyed by Close. Rehan is still a teenaged professional learning his trade – that Karachi Test debut was only his fourth first-class match and he still has only 19 first-class wickets. He took three good ones here. When Dawid Malan reverse-swept a full toss to extend his overnight 91 to 132, extending a remarkable if only occasional run-scoring record on this ground, Rehan was beginning to look tentative. But two balls later, Malan plonked one to long off. From the bowler, there was not the merest hint of relief or celebration. He just rubbed his nose and accepted a high-five that he didn’t have much heart for.His second wicket was cleverer, quicker and wider to set up a stumping for Peter Handscomb as George Hill advanced down the pitch; a token half-raise of his arm to mark this one. By the time he bowled Dom Bess (49 from 43 balls) to wrap up Yorkshire’s innings, he was happier in his work. A stocky 5ft 9ins, he reputedly bowls a little quicker than Adil Rashid, hunting the stumps, and there was air of the hunter in this dismissal, a quicker ball that beat Bess on the pull and caused Rehan to punch his palm in satisfaction. It completed the sense of a bowler who even so early in his career appears to have the wherewithal more often than not to survive the tough days.Dawid Malan made another century for Yorkshire•Getty ImagesThere will be more challenges like this over the summer, often fought out when scrutiny is conspicuous by its absence. That will bring its own test. By his own admission, until he shared in the joy of the Karachi Test win, he used to see the longer formats as “a boring game”. He has serious pretensions as an all-rounder and while he commits himself to his first full county season, he is likely to be giving more of an eye to events in the IPL.Leicestershire acquitted themselves well in response to Yorkshire’s 517. Sol Budinger looked more like Sol Budweiser – two beers for the price of one – as he attempted a series of intoxicating hacks at Milnes, four boundaries within six balls, none of them convincing, before he sliced an attempted leg-side hit to mid off.The new ball brought two more breakthroughs. Lewis Hill edged Ben Coad to slip, pushing warily forward, and Jordan Thompson rescued a good return catch, diving forward, to account for Ryan Patel. But this is a sedate surface, offering little lateral movement for the first week of April and Handscomb and Colin Ackermann played with poise in an fourth-wicket stand of 121. Even the sight of Bess’ new-look platinum hairstyle could not unnerve them. The crowd settled back, arms folded, huddled in winter coats, looking in the Rugby Stand like flies on a white wall, not quite as short-sighted as your average fly, to be fair, but probably a good deal easier to swat.It was the first little test of how Yorkshire’s dressing-room spirit and common sense has survived the winter’s ructions. Quite well, on this evidence, as Milnes, acquired from Kent, had the satisfaction of two late wickets with Ackermann patting a return catch and Wiaan Mulder edging behind. The announcement, too, that Pakistan opener Saud Shakeel finally has his visa – and a four-match deal – emphasised that their ambition is an immediate return to the First Division, potential points penalties or not.

O JOGO

Bournemouth starlet Dean Huijsen has starred under Andoni Iraola for the Cherries this season, and news of a release clause in his contract is reportedly motivating clubs to seriously consider a move for the Spain international this summer.

Chelsea are expected to make a serious push for Huijsen, with Spanish news outlet Sport now claiming that they’ve already begun to lay the groundwork.
Chelsea make approach for Huijsen after "direct contact" from Maresca
The website and journalist Fermin de la Calle reports Chelsea have approached Bournemouth over signing Huijsen, as have PSG, Man United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but Maresca has done serious homework on the player.
The Blues boss has strong connections to the defender through Malaga, and he’s been in “direct contact” with Huijsen’s representatives “for years”.
Southampton's Kamaldeen Sulemana in action with AFC Bournemouth's DeanHuijsen
Maresca is also apparently very acquainted with the coaches who worked with Bournemouth’s star youngster in the youth academy at Malaga, and while Real are working hard to get close to the player through his agents, Chelsea’s manager is already there and has been for a long time.
This is why Real aren’t counting their chickens just yet in the race for Huijsen, as Chelsea and Maresca specifically pose a serious threat to them.
The 19-year-old, whose exit clause stands at around £42 million according to this report, is being continuously linked with an exit from the Vitality Stadium, and Bournemouth expert Mark Mitchener admits that his exit is a possibility.
“If his release clause doesn’t come into play until the summer at least you know you’ve got four, five months left of him,” said Mitchener.
Bournemouth's DeanHuijsencelebrates after the match
“If Bournemouth are in a position at the end of the season where they will play in Europe next year, then you would like to think he would want to stay unless a team came in and offered him a deal too good to turn down.
“He made the decision to come to Bournemouth as a 19-year-old and not wait for a bigger club even though people were saying very nice things about him so he wants to play. He’s doing a very good job of it.
“I’d like to think the club can keep him, but with some of the very best young players in the world it’s very difficult to tell what will happen.”
