£50m player now interested in joining Tottenham after initial January talks

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is privately urging Spurs officials to take action, with a “complete” player now keen on joining the club before January deadline day on February 3.

Tottenham trying to improve squad further after Antonin Kinsky signing

Spurs sealed their first signing of the winter window by striking a £12.5 million deal for goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, with the Czech taking part in his first training session this week and appearing ready to go.

Kinsky comes to N17 as back-up for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, following some unconvincing performances by Fraser Forster in between the sticks recently, but the 21-year-old is by no means the only item on their to-do list over these next few weeks.

Tottenham could make three major January signings before time runs out, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, with the Lilywhites also believed to be pursuing a new centre-back and forward.

Spurs are among the frontrunners to sign RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, as per GiveMeSport, but they face stiff competition from the likes of Premier League champions Man City as they battle for the Uzbek’s signature.

Postecoglou is without Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies until late January, while left-back Destiny Udogie is facing six weeks on the treatment table, motivating the north London side to gauge the market for defensive reinforcements.

Meanwhile, credible media sources have also shared news of Tottenham being firmly in the race to sign out-of-favour PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani.

The France international is not in Luis Enrique’s plans and has been axed from the PSG squad completely. Spurs are one of his main escape routes, with Postecoglou’s side actively exploring a deal for Kolo Muani, alongside the likes of Man United and Juventus.

Despite his misfortune at the Parc des Princes, those within the beautiful game regard Kolo Muani as one of the best attackers available for hire right now.

His best-ever season yielded a return of 23 goals and 17 assists in all competitions, during the 2022/2023 campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt, and these numbers suggest he could be a golden transfer opportunity.

Randal Kolo Muani interested in joining Tottenham after initial talks

According to GiveMeSport, Postecoglou and co have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Les Bleus regular. Indeed, it is believed Kolo Muani has expressed an interest in joining Tottenham after “initial conversations”, but it is unclear whether these talks have been club-to-club or to the player’s representatives.

The Lilywhites also have a significant advantage over fellow contenders Juve, as they’re prepared to negotiate a buy-option clause, whereas the Old Lady only want Kolo Muani on a straight loan deal as things stand.

France'sRandalKoloMuanireacts

In light of these developments, Postecoglou is apparently pushing Spurs to act quickly and strike a deal for the forward, with Tuesday seen as a key day in the race for his signature as multiple suitors circle.

Kylian Mbappe has called his international teammate a “complete” player, and Kolo Muani’s past performances indicate that he could be a real asset for Spurs if he can rediscover his form.

If Tottenham opt to activate a potential future buy-option, the price PSG want is reportedly around £50 million.

Pieter Seelaar admits to 'frustrations' as key Netherlands players put county over country

Clash with T20 Blast means marquee contest will lack several top-drawer home players

Matt Roller16-Jun-2022Pieter Seelaar, the Netherlands’ captain, says he has learned to live with the absence of leading Dutch players from his squad, with at least three first-choice players due to play in the T20 Blast rather than featuring in Friday’s marquee first ODI against England in Amstelveen.Colin Ackermann, Fred Klaassen and Roelof van der Merwe will all play for their respective counties on Friday night, while Paul van Meekeren would likely have done so but for an ankle injury. Timm van der Gugten and Brandon Glover, both members of the Netherlands squad for last year’s T20 World Cup, are not involved in the England series either. In theory, the KNCB (the Dutch board) can force counties to release players under the ICC’s “mandatory release” protocols but, in practice, players are unwilling to jeopardise their county contracts by missing large parts of the English domestic season. Klaassen, who will fly to Amsterdam on Wednesday morning before the third ODI after playing in the Blast for Kent on Tuesday night, described the situation as a “juggling act”.”It’s a question I’ve had to answer now on a number of occasions,” Seelaar said on Thursday. “It is frustrating, but you kind of get to live with it. We’ve played four [full] series in the Super League and you always want to have the best players available at all times which is, unfortunately, not true.”But it also created opportunities for other guys and I think we showed in the West Indies series that we can still be competitive without having – arguably – our best side out. That comes with heart from the guys who want to show how good they are and what they can do at this level. It’s frustrating, but it’s something we deal with.”It’s a tough one. We play cricket on a semi-pro basis, rather than a professional basis, whereas the guys who play in England, it’s their livelihood. Is there something different that can be done about it? Well, if you take away all the politics, then everyone should be playing at the highest level possible.”If you’re playing against England, you can’t get any higher than that. It would have been nice to have them but that’s not how it works nowadays. If something could be changed that would be nice, but I guess it’s very tough.”Seelaar described the prospect of playing against the defending world champions as “incredibly exciting” and said that the Netherlands would take heart from the fact that Scotland, a full associate nation, beat England in 2018 at the Grange – particularly because that game was played on an excellent batting pitch.”It was a game on true merit,” he said. “It wasn’t one of those dodgy wickets. It shows where Associate cricket as a whole has come to. When I started playing in 2005, it was a very different level, As Associates, we used to be happy to be on the park against these teams whereas now we look to compete.Related

“If I said we were looking to win this series 3-0, I would be stupid, but in saying that, we’re looking to compete in these three games. That game has shown not only us, but every aspiring cricket country that it is possible, but everything needs to go your way.”Seelaar is the only survivor from the Dutch team that beat England in the opening game of the 2009 World T20 at Lord’s and one of three men – along with Tom Cooper and Logan van Beek – involved for them this week who played in the 2014 triumph in Chattogram, the teams’ most recent meeting in any format.Eoin Morgan, his counterpart, and Adil Rashid both made their England T20I debuts in the 2009 game, and Seelaar said that a third win at some point in this series would be a “fantastic” achievement. “It might be a scar for England but for us, it’s just joyful memories,” he said.

Man Utd make new approach for £30k-p/w Brazilian INEOS wanted before Ugarte

Manchester United have made another approach to sign a fresh face to bolster their midfield ranks as they look to turn their poor form under Ruben Amorim around, according to a new report.

Manchester United struggling under Amorim

Despite the arrival of Amorim in November, things have not improved for United so far this season. Though they battled to a 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Liverpool in their most recent outing, the point stretched their winless run to five games, having lost the previous four.

It also means that Amorim has won just two of his opening nine Premier League games, and he opened the door to potential relegation with his side currently just nine points clear of the drop zone in 13th place, the lowest they have ever been at this stage of a campaign.

“I think that it is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans”, the new Red Devils head coach explained. “It is a really difficult moment, one of the more difficult moments in the history of Manchester United and we have to address it with honesty.”

One of the biggest problems has been in central midfield, where both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are the wrong side of their peak and lack the energy required for Amorim’s high-press 3-4-2-1 system.

The pairing of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte appears to provide a solution to this, with the younger duo working well in tandem against Liverpool and Mainoo’s introduction proving a key turning point in the defeat to Newcastle the game before. However, the club undoubtedly needs more investment in that area, and now they could have identified their man.

Manchester United make new approach for Wolves midfielder

That comes as a fresh report from TEAMtalk claims that Manchester United have once again asked Wolves for details over a potential move to sign Joao Gomes in the upcoming transfer windows.

The Red Devils have held a long-term interest in the Brazilian no.8, having chased him before they ultimately opted to sign Ugarte over the summer.

That interest clearly remains, and with Wolves currently battling relegation the club could be sniffing a potential bargain at Molineux. Described by Football Analyst Ben Mattinson as a “serious player”, Gomes still has three and a half years left to run on his £30,000 a week deal in the Midlands, but is unlikely to stick around should the Old Gold find themselves in England’s second tier.

However, any deal is unlikely to happen this winter, with the report claiming that Wolves are “not open to considering selling him this transfer window” save for “a huge offer”, something that Manchester United are unlikely to be able to put together given their well-documented financial issues.

Should he become available this summer, Manchester United are unlikely to be the only side keen to sign him, but he could prove a massive upgrade on their current options in midfield and offer some more much-needed energy to Ruben Amorim’s ranks.

Mikel Arteta told 'simple key' to beating Real Madrid as Arsenal ready themselves for Champions League tie against Kylian Mbappe & Jude Bellingham

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been told by Emmanuel Petit that his side can beat Real Madrid on Tuesday, but they must follow one "simple key".

Arsenal take on Madrid on TuesdayPetit gives Arteta instructionsSides meeting for first time since 2006Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Arsenal and France midfielder believes that Arsenal must defend well and finish ruthlessly across both legs if they are to reach the Champions League semi-finals. The Gunners lost to Bayern Munich 3-2 on aggregate at this stage of the tournament last season and Arteta will be determined to prove his side can compete with the biggest and best sides in Europe. Petit suggests that Arsenal can make the most of Madrid's struggles this campaign, but need to do one "simple" thing.

AdvertisementGETTYWHAT PETIT SAID

Asked how Arsenal can beat Madrid by pokerfirma.com, Petit responded: It's simple. They need to defend well as a unit against Madrid. The likes of Vinicius, Bellingham and Mbappe are players that can hurt you at any time.

"They have so many top players that can make the difference and they've done it in the past in the Champions League. These are the kinds of players they have to come up against. If they can play as a unit and they can show great character defensively, then they will have a chance.

"Then they would have to be very clinical. This is something that teams have been struggling with against Real Madrid in the last few years. When opportunity comes, when you have the chance to score, you have to take it. And we all know that Arsenal, at the moment, don't have the striker for that.

"I've seen so many games over the last few years when Madrid were dominated by opponents. Matches where the opponent were having so many chances to score, and they didn't take it. Real are very clinical all the time, so for me these are the two main things: play strong defensively, show unity, character and personality. But in the meantime, up front, when one opportunity to score comes up, you have to take it."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

It is perhaps easier said than done to defend well against Real Madrid. The likes of Mbappe, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Bellingham have enough talent to frighten any defence in the world and Arsenal, without their star defender Gabriel, will have to be faultless to stop the glittering attack. The Gunners are, however, boosted by the return of Bukayo Saka, who scored on his return to football against Fulham this week. The Englishman then played the entire second-half at Goodison Park on Saturday as preparations for the Champions League clash ramp up.

Aussies in the T20 Blast: who stood out during the group stage?

Tim David (Lancashire)
David produced numerous displays of his now well-known middle-order prowess, being particularly impressive in the first half of the group stage. He made 60 off just 25 balls to transform a stuttering innings against Worcestershire then unfurled 66 off 32 balls, including six sixes, in a high-scoring Roses encounter against Yorkshire which his team clung on to win. With Lancashire in the knockouts he has more chance to make a decisive impression amid the ongoing debate about how he fits into the Australia T20I side ahead of the World Cup.Nathan Ellis (Hampshire)
The wickets don’t stand out for Ellis, but his economy rate does. Conceding just 7.01 runs per over made him the most economical frontline quick bowler during the group stage. Missed a few matches with a groin niggle that probably prevented him being called into the injury-hit Australia squad in Sri Lanka.Chris Green (Middlesex)
A handy all-round tournament for Green, after he ended up replacing Mujeeb Ur Rahman throughout, in another Middlesex T20 season that fell flat. Had a good outing against Kent at Lord’s where he took 2 for 18 off his four overs in one of the team’s four victories and made two 40+ scores although both came in defeats.Hayden Kerr (Derbyshire)
Another part of Kerr’s rapid development over recent months after signing an all-formats deal with Derbyshire to replace Suranga Lakmal. Although the economy was on the high side, he chipped in with wickets throughout to the extent he ended the group stage as the team’s third-highest wicket-taker. Derbyshire have reached the quarter-finals so his tournament isn’t over yet.Chris Lynn (Northamptonshire)

The star performer among the Australia contingent, Lynn let his bat do the talking after his departure from Brisbane Heat and speculation as to whether he will be picked up by another BBL club. On all bar one occasion that he reached double figures he went on to score at least a fifty. That included a 106 off 66 balls against Leicestershire and 113 off 57 deliveries against Worcestershire but his pyrotechnics were not enough for Northants to progress.Ben McDermott is among those who will be part of the quarter-finals•Getty Images

Ben McDermott (Hampshire)
A middling group stage for McDermott but he may have come out from a run of five-single scores just in time for the quarter-finals after making 50 and 30 in his last three knocks. Enjoyed a solid run earlier in the tournament which included a ferocious 83 off 30 balls against Middlesex.Michael Neser (Glamorgan)
Reliability from Neser in a campaign where Glamorgan couldn’t find consistency. He claimed three three-wicket hauls, including a career-best 3 for 13 against Essex. He was also the team’s most economical bowler.

T20 Blast quarter-finals

July 6: Surrey vs Yorkshire – The Oval

July 7: Birmingham vs Hampshire- Edgbaston

July 8: Lancashire vs Essex – Old Trafford

July 9: Somerset v Derbyshire – Taunton

Daniel Sams (Essex)
There were moments of impact for Sams, not least his astonishing 71 off just 24 balls against Sussex in a high-scoring game at Chelmsford. It was the first time since his unbeaten 98 against Melbourne Renegades in the last BBL season that he had reached 20. His bowling economy would sometimes blow out, but he took 2 for 22 off his four overs against Kent to set up a win, and his season-best of 3 for 20 came in the final group match after Essex had plundered an eye-watching 254 for 5 against Glamorgan. The sort of player who could win a knockout match.Peter Siddle (Somerset)
A useful contribution from Siddle as Somerset reached the knockouts which included an important performance against Gloucestershire to help secure victory. He also came within a delivery of pulling a game out of the fire when he almost denied Surrey with three wickets in his final over, but his last ball was sent to the boundary.AJ Tye (Durham)
Another good bag of T20 wickets for Tye and he finished the group stage tied fourth overall despite only playing 10 matches. Took an important 3 for 29 against Lancashire in what became low-scoring scrap (he was there at the end with the bat, too) then bagged 5 for 38 against Leicestershire but that came in a defeat.Other Australians who have appeared this seasonJason Behrendorff (Middlesex), Hilton Cartwright (Derbyshire), Dan Christian (Nottinghamshire), Aaron Hardie (Surrey), Matthew Kelly (Northamptonshire), Marnus Labuschagne (Glamorgan) James Pattinson (Nottinghamshire), Josh Phillippe (Sussex), Ashton Turner (Durham)

Rangers now leading the race to sign "quality" 22 y/o who Clement loves

Rangers are now leading the race to sign a Scottish Premiership midfielder, having recently ramped up their interest, according to a report.

Rangers struggling against lower opposition

The Gers kicked off 2025 in emphatic fashion, defeating bitter rivals Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox, which should have been a turning point in their season. However, since then, they have struggled against some of the weaker sides in the division.

Philippe Clement’s side have shared the spoils in their last two matches, most recently failing to put Dundee to the sword despite dominating possession, and there is arguably little to no chance of catching Celtic.

Despite some poor results this season, Clement continues to retain the backing of the board, with chief executive Patrick Stewart recently saying: “We are backing Philippe at this time as a board. It’s about taking a deeper look at the issues, addressing those problems, and staying focused on building a stronger future for the club.

“Changing a manager isn’t a silver bullet solution.”

Enquiry made: Rangers could sign a "vastly experienced" Barron upgrade

Rangers could target a player who can potentially leave his club for free

ByRoss Kilvington Jan 11, 2025

If Rangers are going to challenge for the league title next season, however, it is likely that Clement will need to strengthen his squad, and the manager has now identified a major target in midfield.

According to a report from The Sun, the Light Blues are now ramping up their interest in Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract agreement.

Cameron has just a few months left on his contract, meaning the Gers can sign him for free at the end of the season, should Dundee be unable to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Clement is said to be a big fan of the 22-year-old, and there is seemingly a good chance he could be on his way to Ibrox this summer, as Rangers are now leading the race for his signature.

Cameron could replicate Barron at Ibrox

Connor Barron arrived at Ibrox from Aberdeen last summer, and he has quickly gone on to establish himself as an important player, starting the vast majority of Scottish Premiership games this season.

Cameron’s performances for Dundee indicate he could be capable of emulating his Scotland U21s teammate, having put in some top-drawer performances this term. The Scot has picked up eight goals and seven assists in 27 appearances in all competitions, showcasing his versatility by featuring in both attacking and defensive roles, as well as left-midfield.

Football writer Kai Watson has lauded Cameron as a “quality player” for his “excellent” performances this season, while also stating that he is now ready to play for a bigger club.

As such, it is promising news that Rangers are leading the race for his signature, and they should look to get a deal done as soon as possible.

Everton make contact with chairman to sign "ferocious" £30,000-p/w striker

Everton have now made contact to sign a new forward for David Moyes as they look to add more firepower to their ranks in the second half of the season.

Everton looking for additional firepower

Heading into the January transfer window, it was clear that Everton needed attacking reinforcements. The Merseyside outfit had managed just 15 goals in the Premier League prior to Sean Dyche’s departure, the second lowest of any side in the division.

As a result, they languish just above the relegation zone, with no player in their ranks having managed to find the net more than three times, an achievement shared by Dwight McNeil and Iliman N’Diaye.

And there is concern over the current options to lead the line, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out of contract at the end of the campaign and having been linked with clubs across Europe, while Italian media has continuously suggested that clubs in Serie A are desperately trying to sign Beto after he struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park.

As a result, a striker is needed this winter, and Everton have reportedly held talks with Tom Cannon over a potential return to the club that he left in search of first team football.

However, that deal is deemed “unlikely”, with Cannon more likely to return to the Championship as things stand after a successful loan spell with Stoke City. As a result, Everton have been forced to look elsewhere, and have now made contact over a potential loan signing until the end of the season.

Everton approach Brighton for Ferguson loan

Now, TBR football report that Everton have made contact with Brighton over a move to take out-of-favour forward Evan Ferguson on loan for the remainder of the campaign. The Republic of Ireland striker has barely featured for Fabian Hurzeler in the first half of the campaign, starting just twice and finding the net on just one occasion.

Brighton & Hove Albion'sEvanFergusoncelebrates

However, he is undoubtedly a solid player, with Football Analyst EBL on X dubbing the 20-year-old “the next big thing at centre forward” on account of him being “lightning quick” as well as having “ferocious ball-striking”.

Quizzed on Ferguson’s potential destinations this winter, Hurzeler refused to rule out a move to a fellow Premier League side, explaining: “This decision should be what is best for the player and for the club. It’s more about what is best for the player.”

Now, TBR report that Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom has fielded loan enquiries from a host of Premier League sides chasing his signature, but that Brighton are “yet to green-light any talks” involving their potential future star.

Everton pushing to sign £83m "machine" with "sky high potential" this month

The Toffees are keen on signing a midfielder.

ByDominic Lund Jan 15, 2025

One advantage that Everton could have is that Brighton are unwilling to discuss a permanent deal, instead looking for a loan where the Irishman can play regularly, something that a move to Goodison Park would definitely offer.

Any move would require some movement at Goodison Park, with Everton already having two loanees at the club in the shape of Jack Harrison and Armando Broja and Premier League rules not permitting them to add a third unless one of those deals was either terminated or made permanent.

Amorim might be enduring a turbulent first season at Old Trafford, but off the pitch, his wife Maria Joao Diogo appears to be adjusting to life in England in unexpected ways. According to the Portuguese manager’s spouse has reportedly developed a close and somewhat surprising friendship with Natalia Loewe, the partner of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Despite their husbands managing and playing for two of English football’s fiercest rivals, the two women are said to have grown close while settling into life in Cheshire, where their families reside.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Adding to the growing Portuguese circle in Manchester, Maria is soon expected to welcome another familiar face to the city. Hugo Viana, who is set to become Manchester City’s next director of football, will be joined by his wife Raquel Viana, who happens to be a longtime friend and business partner of Maria. Together, the two women co-own the interior design firm Dois Tons, which they founded back in Portugal. Their business venture has now become a bridge to renewed companionship as Raquel prepares to move to Manchester, reuniting with Maria in the process.

Early reports from those close to the family indicated that she initially struggled to adapt to Manchester’s notoriously gloomy weather.
