Manchester United FC Squad Information For 2022

Manchester United has a lot of making up after early dismal displays under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Thankfully, they have been taken over by Ralf Rangnick until they find a permanent fixture.

Although Manchester United hasn’t returned to their best, they are winning games now, and that’s the essential part. This is great news if you like to bet on the outcome of Man United matches, and don’t worry, you are in safe hands making a bet through one of these betting sites.

And now let’s look at the predicted starting lineup, which features regular faces that will be part of the squad through the 2022 season.

David De Gea

David De Gea will likely be the man in front of the net, with an impressive 71 saves this season and only 31 goals conceded. De Gea has been a Red Devil since he was 14 years old and has made a stamp on the pitch as one of the greatest goal keepers in the world.

Diago Dalot

At only 22 years old, Diogo Dalgot has made an excellent name for himself in defence. Across the current season, he has won 17/23 tackles and come out on top in more than 50% of his duels. He has appeared ten times this season, and of the five he was in the starting lineup, he has not been substituted off.

Victor Lindelof

Leading the Red Devils’ defensive game is Victor Lindelof, who deals extremely well when put under pressure. After suffering breathing difficulties in their game against Norwich, Lindelof is reportedly back in shape and ready to give it his all. Lindelof had appeared in 18 games this season and has only been substituted off one time – when he played Norwich.

Harry Maguire

England’s very own defensive hero Harry Maguire joins Lindelof in central defence. He’s found impressive action in the opponents’ box and has also scored a goal. So far, Maguire has played 18 games and only been substituted off once. The game against Brighton where he might have played again was sadly cancelled.

Alex Telles

Closing the defence line is Alex Telles on the left. Donning the number 27, the 29-year-old brought impressive outside talent to Old Trafford, and he has joined the team on many of their most critical European outings.

Donny Van De Beek

Van De Beek will play in midfield alongside Scott McTominay. Finding his start with Amsterdam-based Ajax, Van De Beek is a highly talented footballer. He has won almost half of his tackles and has been in the starting 11 four times.

Scott McTominay

Joining Van De Beek is Scott McTominay, who has been part of the senior squad since 2017. At the beginning of 2021, McTominay captained United during the Emirates FA Cup. He’s joined the starting lineup 16 times and isn’t afraid to get stuck in.

Jadon Sancho

Moving forward, there will likely be Jadon Sancho on the right-wing, working tirelessly to create opportunities. So far in the 2021/22 season, Sancho has appeared 19 times and found the back of the net twice. His style of play mimics the gritty street scene of London and the Brazilian samba style of the greats.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes will work hard to smash crosses into the box on the left wing. This Portuguese footballer made a name for himself in Italy, where he spent the first five years. Fernandes has scored five goals across his 22 appearances in the current season.

Mason Greenwood

At only 20 years of age, Mason Greenwood is well above expectations regarding stats. He’s appeared 17 times and hit the back of the net five times. At only the beginning of his career, this energetic striker will go far.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Red Devil talisman Cristiano Ronaldo will join Greenwood in the front. So far this season, he’s appeared 18 times and scored 13 goals. You can expect to see Ronaldo in the starting lineup for most of Manchester United’s games.

There are many other key players in the 2022 United squad, but these are the most likely to appear in their next game. Despite all the talent, the question remains whether they can reclaim their former dominance.

Rangers: Expert makes exciting Simons claim

An exciting Rangers transfer claim has been made, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst eyes up potential targets to arrive at Ibrox…

What’s the talk?

Ligue 1 expert Adam White has claimed that a move to Glasgow is possible for PSG talent Xavi Simons at the end of the season.

When asked if a transfer to Scotland could happen, he told GIVEMESPORT:

“I think it’s feasible. I haven’t heard anything that suggests that that’s close or ongoing but I think there’s a lot of talk about Xavi Simons.”

It was reported at the end of December that Rangers were leading the race to land the midfielder, whose contract with the French giants is up in the summer. Although, there have been no further developments to the story between then and these quotes from White.

GVB will love it

Van Bronckhorst will surely love this news as it leaves the door open for Simons to end up at Rangers ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. It remains to be seen whether or not they would be able to bring him in for the second half of the current season, but signing him on a pre-contract deal and avoiding paying a huge transfer fee to PSG could be a fantastic piece of business by the club.

The Dutch head coach will be buzzing as the teenager is a talented young player who is reportedly regarded as one of the best prospects in Europe at the moment. This means that van Bronckhorst could work with him over the course of a number of months and years to hone his talent and ensure that he reaches his potential.

As a result, the ex-Feyenoord boss could enjoy reaping the rewards of his efforts on the training ground for a considerable period of time.

He has played three first-team games and registered one assist for PSG this season – with one appearance in Ligue 1 handed to him by Mauricio Pochettino. This shows that the 18-year-old is trusted enough, despite his age, to play at the top level in a team full of talent – with the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Marquinhos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Neymar, among others.

Simons’ record at youth level also provides an insight into the quality he could bring to Rangers. He has produced five goals and six assists in 12 games for PSG’s U19’s, showing that he can score and create goals on a regular basis.

It remains to be seen whether or not he can do that in a first-team setting, but his involvement for Pochettino’s side suggests that they believe he has the talent to do so. This is why van Bronckhorst will love the claim that a transfer is possible for Rangers in the summer.

Spurs can meet Gleison Bremer asking price

As per Torino Granata, a promising update has now emerged on Tottenham Hotspur’s plans to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer.

The Lowdown: Spurs in centre-half hunt?

Lilywhites boss Antonio Conte and Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici have been tipped to raid Serie A for talent, with centre-backs especially appearing to be on the agenda.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The likes of Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt are two big defensive names to be linked with a move to north London recently, while Bremer of Torino is another one to have emerged.

Praised as one of the Italian top flight’s best performers and a standout in the division so far this term (Calciomercato) – he has the fifth-highest performance rating of all Serie A players in 2021/22 as per WhoScored metrics – Spurs have apparently let their interest be known as Torino Granata provide the latest.

The Latest: Spurs ‘pressing’ insistently…

As per the Italian source, Tottenham’s ‘pressing’ for the Brazilian has become ‘insistent’, with Conte personally adding Bremer to his list of targets for next season.

Torino president Urbano Cairo, who is keen to avoid the prospect of losing him on a free deal akin to Andrea Belotti potentially, is now ‘already listening to possible proposals’ for his centre-back as Bremer’s contract expires in 2023.

That’s where Spurs come in, as they now push hard to meet the 24-year-old’s asking price. Cairo has apparently requested ‘over €20 million (£17.1m)’, a figure which Spurs can ‘reach’ according to this report.

The Verdict: Get it done…

A mooted fee of £17.1m is nothing short of a bargain for a player of Bremer’s calibre, form and age, so we strongly advise Paratici to back Conte with his signing.

According to WhoScored, the Brazilian has averaged an incredible 3.7 interceptions per 90, almost double that of Tottenham’s highest interceptor Sergio Reguilon, thus highlighting Bremer’s real tenacity in defence.

In another incentive, out of all Spurs’ regulars with more than one start, only Eric Dier has averaged more clearances per match (4.3) in that time than Bremer (4.2). In terms of aerial duels, Torino’s mainstay has made more on average than any Lilywhites player, and it’s clear that his colossal presence could be a real asset to Conte.

Described as ‘strong’ and ‘powerful’ by Italian football expert Conor Clancy (via Football FanCast), this could be a very shrewd move by Tottenham if they can execute it.

Liverpool given Neco Williams injury boost

Neco Williams will be available for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Porto this week after recovering from injury, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Williams misses Arsenal win

The Reds were in irresistible form on Saturday evening, winning 4-0 at home to Arsenal to keep within four points of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Among numerous other players, Williams was unavailable for Liverpool, with the Welshman picking up an injury in the week leading up to the game. However, it appears as though the right-back’s absence was only a short-term one.

The Latest: Pearce gives positive update

Speaking in a Q&A for The Athletic after Saturday’s game, Pearce confirmed that he expects Williams to be available for the Champions League clash with Porto on Wednesday night.

In addressing the fitness of various players for the Arsenal game and forthcoming matches, the journalist revealed: “Neco Williams out due to muscle tightness and expected to be back for midweek.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-12/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Chance to shine

With Liverpool already through to the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners, Wednesday’s match at Anfield will be an ideal opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to rotate his squad and give fringe players a chance to shine.

Williams will almost certainly be one of those, coming in for Trent Alexander-Arnold and looking to take his impressive recent international form to the club stage.

He was hailed as ‘fearless’ by journalist Henry Winter earlier in the week, and assuming he is fit enough to feature, a big performance against Porto could suggest that Liverpool don’t need to consider looking at bringing in a new backup option for Alexander-Arnold in forthcoming transfer windows.

Albie Morkel finds form amid rain

A round-up from the latest domestic action in South Africa

Firdose Moonda05-Oct-2009Last week Morne Morkel bowled a superb spell to stake his claim for national selection and this week was the turn of brother Albie at Durban. The older Morkel took four for 70 although he was the most expensive of the Titans bowlers. Morkel was overshadowed by the Dolphins’ Yusuf Abdulla. The left-armer, who rose to prominence during the IPL, showed that he is not simply a 20-over player. His five for 62 demolished the Titans as they were bowled out for 164.However, the weather had the final say as the Dolphins ended on 128 for three in their second innings, a lead of 197. There wasn’t too much to speak about with the bat in this match, with Ahmed Amla notching up a half-century. The draw means the Eagles still top the table.Rain also played its part at Randjesfontien, the Oppenheimer-owned ground, where the Lions hosted a Warriors outfit rich in national talent. But it wasn’t only the international players who starred. Arno Jacobs scored a century in his 100th first-class match and Justin Kreusch notched up his first century. Together with Johan Botha’s 88, the Warriors amassed an imposing 474. The Lions bowlers all toiled hard, with Friedel de Wet, Cliffie Deacon and Robert Frylinck each picked up three apiece. The Lions top four batsmen had three half centuries between them, with Neil McKenzie and Alviro Petersen once again finding form. But it was national under-19 captain Jonathan Vandiar who held the innings together though with a confident, undefeated 128.McKenzie made a challenging declaration for the second match in a row, calling the batsmen back on 395 for seven, and giving the Warriors a 79 run first-innings lead.McKenzie’s decision looked like it might pay off when Friedel de Wet had Ashwell Prince out for a duck but most of the final day was rained off.In the Provincial three-day league, the Free State and North West drew their match. Mohammed Akoojee and Andrea Agathagelou scored centuries while the pick of the bowlers was the North West’s Johan Mostert with four for 40.The Free State earned a comprehensive 92-run victory in the limited-overs game. Jonathan Beukes’ 130 not out helped the home side to 242 for six but it was Hancke von Rauenstein six for 21 that won the game for the men from Bloemfontein.Glen Addicott scored 104 and 21 year old Kyle Nipper took four for 97 as the KZN Inland team drew with Western Province at Pietermaritzburg. The Inland team’s enforced declaration occurred when they were on 250 for six. In response, they bowled Province out for 266. Alastair Gray’s good form continued as he scored 46. Natal’s second innings ended on 124 for three.Western Province had the better of their opponents in the limited-overs game, winning by six wickets. Mario Olivier’s five for 37 saw the Inlanders restricted to 199 for eight. Gray scored 49 opening the batting and Martin Walters was undefeated on 56 as Province reached the target with four overs to spare.Batsman of the week
Jonathan Vandiar announced his comeback to first-class cricket properly this week by notching up his second hundred. After suffering an horrific Achilles injury last season, Vandiar made a fairly quiet return to the game last week. This week, though, he catapulted himself into the top six batsmen in the table, joining two other Lions players, McKenzie and Petersen.Bowler of the week
Von Rauensterin’s match-winning performance earns him this week’s award. He removed Akoojee when the Free State were still very much in the game on 78 for two in the 13th over and then removed two middle-order batsmen (Riyaadh Bhayat and Brett Pelser) in successive balls. Four overs later, Agathagelou, who was on 51 also succumbed to the legspinner and he added two of the lower order batsman to his tally for good measure as well.

Leeds: Orta eyeing Bielsa replacement

Victor Orta is reportedly lining up a move to replace Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United…

What’s the word?

According to Valencian outlet Super Deporte (via Sport Witness), the Whites director of football has already made a first approach to former Granada boss Diego Martinez about the possibility of taking over from the Argentine.

It’s thought that everything points towards the 40-year-old being Bielsa’s replacement at Elland Road by the start of next season.

The Yorkshire giants have made a poor start to the 2021/22 season, having finished inside the top-ten last campaign, so the chances of the 66-year-old not renewing his contract is a distinct possibility.

Bye-bye Bielsa?

This may be a sign that Orta and co are prepared to make one of their biggest calls yet as life without Bielsa wouldn’t have crossed the minds of many around Thorp Arch.

The fan-favourite manager has been in dugout since June 2018, where he has since guided the club to the Premier League for the very first time in 16 years.

Across 155 matches, United have won 78 matches (50.3%), also averaging 1.66 goals and 1.68 points per game, via Transfermarkt, but it’s no secret that injuries and perhaps poor – or a lack of – recruitment has curtailed their progress this term.

Leeds sit one place and two points above the relegation zone after 12 games, and whilst there is plenty of time still left in the season, just two wins is worrying reading.

Martinez would be a really intriguing option from Orta, seeing as he’s never managed outside of Spain across a near 18-year coaching career, having held roles as an assistant at Sevilla and manager at Osasuna.

He has even achieved promotion to LaLiga with Granada and then steered them into the Europa League, making the quarter-finals last term.

However, given the loyalty and admiration to Bielsa around Elland Road, this move would certainly be a surprising one from Orta and it is perhaps even more strange given the timing.

Of course, Leeds need to think about post-Bielsa but you can’t help but feel he is far from finished in his journey here.

Romano: Newcastle to target 3 key positions

Just how Newcastle United decide to approach the January transfer market will be fascinating and compelling.

Gone are the days of Mike Ashley’s laborious approach to recruitment as a new era under PIF’s guidance promises plenty in terms of new signings.

What’s the word?

The Saudi’s have very nearly completed their backroom puzzle at St James’ Park with a new manager in Eddie Howe now contracted to the club.

They still need to address the vacant director of football position but conversations are set to take place with Michael Emenalo who appears to be the favourite.

If he does arrive in the northeast, then he is set to have a very strict brief according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE on Wednesday, he delivered an update on the areas Newcastle would be targeting over the winter.

He said: “I’m told for January they want a centre-back, and they want a creative midfield and a striker. This is the list for Newcastle in January.”

Delight for supporters

Although Romano doesn’t go into detail over who might be on their shortlist in January, the Toon Army should be delighted by what they’re reading.

After all, those three areas are absolutely imperative if they are to survive relegation and stay in the Premier League.

A central defender is of utmost importance, especially when you consider their quite frankly woeful record at the back in 2021/22.

That is one of the biggest problems that Howe will need to address in the coming months with a grand total of 24 goals conceded this term, the second-highest in the entire top-flight. Thus, the addition of a new centre-back will be welcomed at St James’ and it’s that area that should elate supporters the most if they can convince a top talent to join them.

A midfielder is greatly needed too. After all, only Javi Manquillo and Allan Saint-Maximin, neither of whom are central creative individuals, have picked up more than one assist in league action this season.

Thus, the addition of a playmaker in the middle of the park is sure to go down well with fans, particularly if they swoop for someone of the calibre of Donny van de Beek, a name regularly linked with the Toon.

Sourcing a striker isn’t of great concern given the form of two-goal Saint-Maximin and four-goal Callum Wilson, but a shiny new forward is something that is always received well, no matter the team.

With players like Dusan Vlahovic and Timo Werner linked from an offensive persuasion, this could be a particularly compelling few months for Newcastle. The St James’ faithful should definitely be delighted at how things are playing out.

AND in other news, Howe could find his new Ake if Newcastle swoop for “very intelligent” £26.8m beast…

Liverpool fans mock Lionel Messi prediction

Some Liverpool supporters believe that Lionel Messi still isn’t over Barcelona’s defeat to the Reds after he didn’t name them as Champions League contenders.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have had some special matches in his six-year reign, but the 4-0 win over Barca back in 2018/19 is surely near the top of the list. Liverpool overturned a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie, producing one of the most miraculous comebacks in European history.

[freshpress-quiz id=“375258″]

Even the legendary Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, was powerless to do anything about that result and it is a game which seemingly continues to haunt him, even since leaving Barca for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year.

When asked by L’Equipe [via LFC Transfer Room on Twitter] who he thinks are contenders to win this season’s Champions League, the Argentine legend conveniently ignored Liverpool, instead replying: “It is true that the centre of attention is on PSG, but there are other very strong teams. Chelsea, the Manchester teams, Real Madrid, who always responds, Inter, Bayern.”

Celtic: Olivier Ntcham spotted in Hoops attire

Former Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham has been spotted wearing Hoops attire, The Daily Record report.

The Lowdown: Ntcham at Swansea

Ntcham was one of a number of long-serving Parkhead members who left the club over the summer.

He eventually joined Championship side Swansea City on a free transfer, where he has gone on to make eight appearances during the current campaign.

However, the Frenchman, who won nine honours with Celtic, still has his Hoops attire and decided to bring it out in the week.

The Latest: Instagram post

Ntcham, who follows the likes of Christopher Jullien and Mikey Johnston on Instagram, posted a picture from a gym session on the social media site, wearing an old Hoops tracksuit.

The Daily Record shared the snapshot of the 25-year-old, with Ntcham working on his fitness after a final 12 months to forget at Parkhead, making just seven league starts in the 2020/21 season.

The Verdict: Good to see…

Even though Ntcham’s four-year stay at Celtic petered out somewhat acrimoniously earlier this year, it’s good to see he’s still happy to wear the club’s colours.

The midfielder, who Neil Lennon labelled as ‘unbelievable’, posted a classy message when he left Celtic and his latest antics down in Wales may well strike the right note with Hoops fans.
