Moises Caicedo: West Ham submit transfer approach for Independiente midfielder

David Sullivan must sanction a £5.5million January transfer bid for Independiente del Valle’s Moises Caicedo, who could be David Moyes’ next Declan Rice at West Ham United.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Record, the Irons have submitted an inquiry over the young Ecuador international as they look to contend with Manchester United for his signature.

Caicedo’s high-energy and aggressive pressing is seen as the perfect addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred game plan at Old Trafford, while fitting seamlessly with Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward’s vision for a “cultural reboot”.

The 19-year-old set two records when he scored during Ecuador’s 4-2 win over Uruguay in October, to become the youngest-ever goalscorer for his country and the first player born in the 21st-century to net in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying fixture.

Independiente are said to value Caicedo at €6m (£5.5m) and would demand a 20 per cent sell-on clause should he leave in the upcoming January window, having tied the skilful midfield titan down to a new four-year contract after a handful of approaches this summer.

West Ham and Manchester United are offering the official line that they will only be active in the mid-season market if the right deal presents itself, while Caicedo would be expected to favour a move to Old Trafford.

The teen brute recently named the Red Devils as his favourite club and praised Paul Pogba as a player he draws inspiration from, alongside Chelsea and France star N’Golo Kante.

Moyes’ next Rice

West Ham stepping up their interest in Caicedo from an official inquiry to a formal bid could see Sullivan deliver Moyes his next Rice, and lock up the future of the Hammers’ midfield in case Chelsea return with a new approach for the Irons’ England international.

Frank Lampard’s side baulked at West Ham’s £80m asking price for Rice in the summer and could face competition from Manchester United, after the Red Devils were touted to be considering the West Ham captain as they begin targeting four signings to complete a squad overhaul.

Moyes will be irate if the east Londoners lose Rice without having a ready-made replacement in store, having called on the 21-year-old as one of four players to play all 1,170 minutes in the Premier League thus far this season.

Caicedo may not yet have any Premier League experience but may be Moyes’ answer, as the four-time Ecuador international has already established himself as a central figure for Independiente in their domestic and Copa Libertadores campaigns with six goals and two assists in 30 senior games.

His box-to-box exploits have also seen Caicedo lauded as a well-rounded and remarkably complete player by Scouted Football, who note the 19-year-old brings a mature level to his passing as he recycles possession or plays ambitious balls to progress play.

Those words are reflected in his output, too, with Caicedo recording a 100% accuracy rating with 2.2 long balls a game in the 2020 Copa Libertadores alongside 29.3 total passes, 1.0 key balls, 1.0 successful tackles, 3.3 duels won and 0.7 shots, per SofaScore.

Exclusive: Rob Lee advises Roy Keane to snub rumoured Celtic move

A lot of talk has been swirling around Neil Lennon’s future as the manager of Celtic Football Club. The Hoops have endured a difficult season in which they currently see themselves trailing to arch rivals Rangers in the league.

Their Glaswegian neighbours are running away with it at the top of the table and have a hefty 13-point lead over Celtic. Although the reigning champions have two games in-hand, it doesn’t look like they have much chance of catching the Gers, who are yet to lose a match.

The Bhoys are also out of the Europa League, having won just one match in their group stage. This came on Thursday when they managed to come out on top of a 3-2 win over Lille to end their European run.

Many believe that if (or more likely when) Celtic finish second in the league this season, Lennon will be shown the door and the hunt will start for a replacement.

Speaking to FootballFanCast editor James Beavis, former Premier League midfielder Rob Lee discussed potential names to replace the current Celtic boss, including Roy Keane.

Lee tipped Eddie Howe to be a good potential fit for the Hoops, but snubbed the idea of Keane making the move to Parkhead.

“Roy Keane was a fantastic footballer but I think he’s good as a pundit, he’s a great pundit. Pundits these days are so limited to what they can say but I think Roy breaks that trend. I think he says exactly what he thinks.

“He probably wants to be a manager but I think he should stay as a pundit.”

Southampton should move to sign Troy Deeney before EFL window closes

Southampton are in the running to land a deal for Watford veteran Troy Deeney before the EFL transfer window closes this week.

According to written version of The Sunday Mirror (via tbrfootball.com), The Saints are rivalling two other Premier League sides who are also looking to bring the Englishman back to the top flight. No asking price has been named for Deeney but as it stands, he has less than 12 months left on his current contract and he is not getting much game time for the Hornets.

An ideal back-up for Ings

Transfermarkt currently value the striker at £5.8million so an offer in that region could be enough to get a deal done. However, as the 32-year-old looks to be surplus to Vladimir Ivic’s side, Watford may accept a much smaller fee.

With Ralph Hasenhuttl already strengthening his attack with the addition of Theo Walcott on loan from Everton, bringing in Deeney would be a smart move to further bolster Southampton’s ranks. The Austrian could play two men up top and have both experienced strikers posing a threat, but the likelihood is that the Watford skipper would still play second fiddle to Danny Ings.

The former Liverpool man has a gruesome backlog of injuries, suffering ACL damage during his time at Anfield. Saints fans will be keeping a close eye on Ings’ fitness in case his previous problems come back to haunt him and having another option to manage Ings’ game time could be a wise move. At 32, Deeney might be looking for the club he wants to retire with and Southampton could be a good destination for him.

Hasenhuttl will want to improve on his 11th place finish last season and he might even be eying up a top six place in the near future. Deeney’s seniority and desire to win a trophy could be a driving force in a Southampton side that is seemingly on the rise.

Aston Villa remain keen on wantaway Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has already bolstered his frontline with no fewer than two new additions this summer transfer window, though it appears as if he wants more options in attack.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon this weekend, the Midlands outfit are one of several Premier League teams battling it out to sign wantaway Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster before the October 5th deadline.

He claims that the 20-year-old would like to speak Crystal Palace whilst Sheffield United are also keen amongst others.

A fee of £20m with add-ons and clauses is mentioned in regards to a potential switch to the Eagles, so you’d imagine Johan Lange and co would have to fork out similar.

Brewster went out on loan to Swansea City in the Championship in January where he soon hit the ground running, and ended the campaign with 11 goals from 22 matches.

Despite this, he still hasn’t been able to force his way into the senior fold – not even above Divock Origi, who has also been mooted with a move to Villa this transfer window.

The England U17 World Cup winner (and top goalscorer) certainly meets the profile of Smith’s signings this summer – young, homegrown with bags of potential, such as Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins.

Even Bertrand Traore came through Chelsea’s system in 2014.

Brewster has received plenty of praise throughout his career too – Jurgen Klopp’s a fan, even though he won’t promote him into the first-team setup. He once claimed the young sensation was “physically stronger, wonderfully skilled boy, real striker, good finisher, fantastic work ethic and all that stuff” after suffering an injury.

Whilst Jadon Sancho, his teammate in India has also waxed lyrical, he said: “I have played with him. I know how good he is. He causes defenders nightmares. He is a great player. I feel like he is at the right club, he is developing and he is still so young.”

It remains to be seen whether Villa could potentially launch a bid of their own for Brewster but if they did, they’d be undoubtedly getting one for the future.

Tottenham Hotspur: Habib Diallo could be Harry Kane’s perfect striking back up – Opinion

Speaking exclusively to French news outlet Le Republicain Lorrain, Metz defender Matthieu Udol confirmed that Tottenham striking target Habib Diallo is in fact seeking a move away, and the Lilywhites could land a perfect Harry Kane understudy for a reported £12.5m fee.

Diallo, who has been linked with a move to north London over the past few months, is also said to be keen on a switch to Spurs – with a report courtesy of BeIN Sports via TEAMtalk suggesting that he favours Tottenham over all other interest.

Given the Senegalese target man’s eagerness for a Premier League move, specifically to link up with Jose Mourinho, and the Lilywhites’ dire need for a forward who can provide strength in depth behind Kane, this appears to be a match made in heaven.

At just 25 years of age, Diallo hit double figures for Metz over 2019/20, racking up 12 goals in 26 starts for the club (WhoScored).

Fellow Spurs-linked forwards Callum Wilson and Josh King, whilst impressing in flashes for Bournemouth last season, could only just beat that total with their tallies combined (14).

Given that the homegrown duo could command higher prices, it’s debatable that a swoop for Diallo cries out as the superior transfer option, especially going by his overall statistics.

Indeed, the 6 ft 1 colossus, whilst averaging more shots per match than Kane last season, also won a head-turning 4.3 aerial duels per game in that time, drawing attention to his physicality and presence up front.

While Diallo seeks pastures new, and has shown real interest in a north London move, it appears that Daniel Levy could strike gold with this bargain swoop.

Arsenal: Club should sell Mohamed Elneny as he threatens to derail deal with Besiktas

Arsenal should do everything that they can to sell Mohamed Elneny as he has threatened to derail a potential transfer deal with Turkish outfit Besiktas, as per Askam.

According to Hurriyet (via Askam), the defensive midfield player, who issued a warning to the administration on the grounds that he could not get a  €1.3 million debt, has tied the hand of Besiktas, who were experiencing economic difficulties.

Elneny, who said that he would not play the remaining eight games of the season if he did not get his debts on top of this, drew an ultimatum to Besiktas, as per Askam. The 27-year-old, who said he could leave the team, may not be in the team in the remaining matches if he does not receive his money. However, the football player continues to negotiate on salary.

Indeed, Elneny has made 28 appearances in all competitions so far in Turkey, making two assists, as per Transfermarkt.

However, he is due to return to north London after his loan spell is finished, where it will be up to Mikel Arteta and the board as to what they would like to do with him.

The Egyptian international has never really nailed down a place in the Gunners’ starting eleven. He has made 89 appearances in all competitions over five campaigns, but has never featured in more than 14 Premier League games in one term (via Transfermarkt).

He is also technically not Arteta’s man, and arguably has the likes of Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi to try and overtake in his position.

The Spanish coach should look to sell Elneny to raise some possibly needed extra funds for the transfer kitty in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Leeds United: Fans react to ‘unrecognisable’ player’s Arsenal photo

Many Leeds United fans have reacted to a post via Twitter showing Luke Ayling in an Arsenal shirt as a youngster.

Defender Ayling has been one of the standout performers at Elland Road this season, gaining an average of 7.31 out of ten per game via Whocored.com. The 28-year-old’s displays have helped guide Marcelo Bielsa’s side to sit one point clear of West Bromwich Albion at the top of the Championship standings as things stand.

Joining Leeds in the summer of 2016 from Bristol City, Ayling has since become a regular start for the Yorkshire club, making 145 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Three seasons at Bristol came after a spell with Yeovil Town, whom Ayling joined after developing through the youth academy at Premier League side Arsenal.

Joining the Gunners at the age of 10, Ayling would follow the likes of Jack Wilshere and Kyle Bartley through the club’s academy sides, signing professional terms with the duo in the summer of 2007.

With football at a current standstill due to the pandemic, many club accounts and fan accounts on social media platform Twitter have been engaging with fans, and a latest tweet from Second Tier Podcast suggesting that Ayling is ‘unrecognisable’ in a Gunners shirt has seen Leeds fans react to the image in question.
