Top target: Arne Slot now personally wants £180k-p/w player at Liverpool

Arne Slot is taking Liverpool transfer matters into his own hands this summer and has already personally earmarked the star he wants to make his first signing, according to a fresh report.

Liverpool's stars shrouded in uncertainty

After a third-placed Premier League finish last season, Liverpool are hoping that Slot's arrival will see them challenge Manchester City and Arsenal come the final day of the 2024-25 campaign. But while both Pep Guardiola's side and the Gunners have made signings already this summer, Liverpool are yet to do so.

In fact, their squad has got weaker on paper, with all of Adrian, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara all leaving for nothing, though the latter pair were injured for much of the last season.

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

More concerning is the speculation around some of their ageing stars. Captain Virgil van Dijk has sounded uncertain about his own future as the 33-year-old centre-back heads into the final 12 months of his Anfield deal. After his side's semi-final loss at EURO 2024, the Dutchman admitted he “hasn't the slightest idea right now”. “I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player,” he added. “Then we'll go for it again, but first recover from this."

Meanwhile, speculation has surrounded Mohamed Salah, who is persistently linked with Saudi Arabia once more, whereas the Saudi Pro League are also thought to be keen to take Alisson as well.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also entering the final twelve months of his Liverpool contract, and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, which would see him link up with good friend Jude Bellingham.

As a result, reinforcements will be needed, and Slot appears to have identified his main target.

Arne Slot makes defender top target

That comes as TEAMtalk claim the new Liverpool boss has identified Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer as his top target this summer. The defender has been linked with Manchester United in the past, but they have since moved on to other targets after signing Leny Yoro.

Now it is Liverpool's turn to chase the Brazilian international, with the report revealing that he is "heading the wanted list for Slot".

Bigger deal than Nunez: Liverpool could launch move for £100m Gakpo upgrade

Bremer has been with Juventus since 2022 and has gone on to become an excellent defender, with some suggesting that he is the best centre-back in the Italian top-flight.

“I really like Bremer. He’s an exceptional player with great timing and positioning on the pitch," Juventus legend Sergio Brio claimed back in January.

“The Brazilian is the best defender in Serie A today. I’m certain of it.”

His departure from Turin would not be cheap, with Bremer still having four years left to run on his £180,000-a-week deal, which includes bonuses, with the Old Lady.

Juventus defender Bremer.

However, it is reported that this fact has not put the Reds off, who are "firming up their interest" and are now ready to "test Juventus' resolve" with a "big offer" for the defender.

Though Matip has left the club, Ibrahima Konate's presence and the rise of Jarrell Quansah may mean that another right-footed centre-back is not the best use of funds at Anfield, while at 27-years-old Bremer is very much at his peak.

Man Utd player ratings vs Leicester City: Good news, Ruben Amorim – Bruno Fernandes is flying, as captain celebrates 250th Red Devils appearance and Ruud van Nistelrooy signs off with a win

The Portuguese midfielder showcased his attacking qualities to his next manager on a blissfully happy afternoon at Old Trafford

Ruud van Nistelrooy ended his brief spell as Manchester United manager just as he began it, with a dazzling win over Leicester City in which Bruno Fernandes took centre stage.

The United captain celebrated his 250th appearance for the club before kick-off and got his side off to an ideal start by curling into the bottom corner from outside the area. It was his first goal in the Premier League this season from open play, and Fernandes also had a huge part in United's second strike, stooping to head in a cross that deflected in off Victor Kristiansen.

It was a remarkably serene afternoon for United, which was a welcome change to the traumatic home games they have had to previously endure this season, and substitute Alejandro Garnacho rounded off the happy occasion with a sublime strike into the top corner from long range to make it 3-0.

Van Nistelrooy saluted the fans as he walked down the tunnel and he can be very happy with his four games in charge, leaving Amorim with a more stable platform than the wreck he looked to be inheriting two weeks ago when Erik ten Hag was sacked.

Talks held: West Ham make move to sign "phenomenal" £30m Player of the Year

West Ham United have reportedly held opening talks to sign a new midfielder who won Player of the Year with his club last season.

West Ham transfer latest

Two new players have put pen to paper with the Hammers since the transfer window officially opened last month. First, Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme arrived from Palmeiras in a £25m+ deal, and more recently, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham signed on a free transfer after he left Sheffield United.

Now, Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten appear to be after a marquee defensive addition, with Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Max Kilman heavily linked to reunite with Lopetegui.

ByCharlie Smith Jul 2, 2024

Should Kilman not arrive, then Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo is seemingly viewed as an alternative, with the Hammers already having a £30m bid turned down by the Ligue 1 side.

A new midfielder also looks to be on the to-do list before Lopetegui’s first season officially gets underway against Aston Villa on August 17th, with Matt O’Riley attracting interest from the Irons.

West Ham hold talks for Matt O’Riley

According to a report from HITC in the last 48 hours, West Ham are one of five Premier League clubs interested in signing O’Riley from Celtic.

It is claimed that the Hammers, along with Brentford, Everton and Fulham, have all held talks with the Denmark international, whereas Southampton are £10m short of Celtic’s £30m asking price.

A £30m exit from Celtic Park would see him become the Hoops’ most expensive departure, and there is also interest from abroad, with Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Lyon and Monaco also named in the update.

After joining Celtic from MK Dons in 2022, O’Riley has gone from strength to strength in Glasgow, winning six major honours with the Hoops and seeing his Transfermarkt valuation rocketing from €2.3m to a career-high €20m.

Primarily a central midfielder, the 23-year-old can also play as a holding or attacking midfielder and starred last season. In all competitions, he scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in 48 appearances.

O’Riley picked up Celtic’s Young Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year as a result of his brilliant campaign and was hailed by Brendan Rodgers, who said in May:

“He has been absolutely phenomenal really in his consistency. I think if we lacked anything as a team, it was probably that.”

Rodgers also added: “He is very humble, there is nothing flash about him. His peers recognise the work he puts in and the mentality that he has. They know when they sit beside him in the changing room, this is a guy that puts in absolutely everything for the team and that is obviously very much respected.”

A move to England could be one to keep an eye on for the London-born star, but it looks as if West Ham will need to beat a number of their Premier League rivals if they want to secure O’Riley’s services.

Chelsea eyeing “the best 9 in the world” to finally replace Drogba

If you were to ask the Chelsea faithful who the best Premier League striker of the last 20 years was, Didier Drogba would be the most popular answer.

The Ivory Coast international will forever be regarded as a Blues legend for his famous goal in the 2012 Champions League final.

However, Chelsea haven’t had a striker quite as influential since the days of the number nine, despite Diego Costa – who scored 59 goals in 120 games for the Blues – having a strong attempt.

Yet, this summer, Todd Boehly is incredibly keen to sign a true goal scorer who can have a similar impact on Chelsea as Drogba once had.

Chelsea’s search for a new centre forward

As per reports from Spain, Chelsea are interested in signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan.

It’s said that Todd Boehly’s keen to sign a 'world-class' striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, with Paris Saint-Germain also in the race.

Reports from Italy, via OneFootball, recently said that Chelsea would have to pay around £94m to secure the signature of the centre forward.

Lautaro Martinez could be Chelsea’s best striker since Drogba

There’s no two ways about it: Martinez has been absolutely fantastic since joining Inter in 2018, becoming one of the best players in Italy.

This season, the number ten played a huge role in Inter winning their second Serie A title with Martinez in the squad, netting an insane 24 goals in 31 starts.

Inter Milan'sLautaroMartinezreacts

Yet, the Argentine hasn’t only cemented himself as one of the best goal-scorers in Europe; he’s also developed into a true leader, wearing the captain’s armband.

The above sounds very like Drogba, who was known to win games by himself due to his excellent finishing and leadership from the front – the Ivorian netting 164 goals and registering 88 assists in 381 games for the west Londoners.

However, as you can see, what’s the most impressive aspect of the Serie A star’s game is just how consistent he’s been over the years.

This proves that Martinez is a reliable source of goals, which could really help take Enzo Maresca's Chelsea to the next level next season, as he’s been regarded as “the best 9 in the world” by football podcaster Angelo Gomes.

The former Racing Club youth gem even boasts a better record than Drogba during his last five campaigns at Stamford Bridge, excluding his return season, which highlights just how incredible a signing he truly could be.

Furthermore, when compared to Jackson, Chelsea’s current first-choice number nine, it’s clear that Maresca would be getting a huge upgrade in the striker department.

Unlike the number 15, who's been rather wasteful in front of goal this season – as evidenced by the number of missed chances – Martinez is the definition of a composed, clinical finisher who tends to stick the ball in the back of the net if given even half a chance, which is often the difference between good strikers and the elite.

Overall, it’s quite clear just how world-class Martinez is, and if Chelsea can acquire the Argentine, the fanbase should be extremely excited about the future of the club.

Nem o melhor time do mundo vence todas.

Poch must part ways with Chelsea man who’s played less than Nkunku

Chelsea's 2023/24 season came to an end on Sunday as they beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to finish sixth in the Premier League table.

The Blues achieved a sixth-placed finish and are now set to host European football next term, having gone through the current campaign without any Champions League, Europa League, or Europa Conference League games.

Mauricio Pochettino will now have a number of decisions to make during the upcoming summer transfer window as he shapes the squad for the new season.

One player who must be ruthlessly ditched from the squad by the Argentine head coach is central midfielder Cesare Casadei, who should be shipped out on loan or sold permanently if a good enough offer comes in.

Cesare Casadei's time with Leicester in numbers

The Italy U21 international spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Leicester City in the Championship but failed to nail down a place as a regular starter in Enzo Maresca's side.

Despite the Foxes' dominance in the second tier, as they went on to win the division, the Chelsea youngster could not showcase much in the way of attacking quality when on the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, Casadei underperformed in front of goal with the quality of chances that were created for him and failed to provide a single assist for his teammates in 22 matches, only eight of which came as a starter.

He also made just 1.2 tackles and interceptions combined per game and lost 51% of his duels, which shows that the youngster did not make up for his lack of attacking quality with strong defensive work.

Why Chelsea should move Cesare Casadei on

Pochettino opted to bring the Italian gem back to Stamford Bridge to be part of his first-team squad for the second half of the campaign but the 6 foot 1 talent did not do enough to suggest that he should be kept around next season.

Casadei, who was once hailed as "powerful" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, went on to play 11 times in the Premier League over the past five months, all of which came as a substitute.

Cesare Casadei

He played 99 minutes of top-flight action for the Blues and produced zero interceptions, zero goals, zero assists, and zero 'big chances' created in that time.

This meant that the 21-year-old midfielder ended the Premier League season with even fewer minutes than Christopher Nkunku (437), despite the French forward having missed a whopping 39 matches through various injury issues.

The former RB Leipzig star battled back through his fitness problems to score three goals in 11 league appearances for the Blues, whilst Casadei did not do enough with his time on the pitch.

His lack of starts and complete lack of impact on the pitch off the bench suggests that Chelsea must now brutally ditch the youngster this summer, whether that is on loan or permanently.

Chelsea star who won 11 duels simply has to become a regular next season

ByDan Emery May 20, 2024

Casadei's lacklustre performances, both in the Championship for Leicester and in the Premier League for the Blues, show that he is unlikely to be a useful player for Pochettino next term, which is why he should be brutally parted ways with ahead of next season.

Arsenal hit gold on "extraordinary" star who’s now worth as much as Raya

Since becoming the manager of Arsenal in December 2019, Mikel Arteta has overseen several transfer windows, which have all had varying degrees of success. In total, the Spaniard has spent around £700m.

Some of the success stories include the likes of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice. The Norweigan midfielder joined Arsenal on a permanent basis from Real Madrid, after an initial loan move to the Emirates Stadium in a deal worth roughly £30m, in August 2021.

England international Rice, who has now captained his country, signed for the Gunners in a club-record deal which saw him move from West Ham to the North London club for £105m. It is fair to say both deals have been a success so far.

Meanwhile, some have not been quite as good. The likes of Nuno Tavares, who Arsenal signed from Benfica for £8m in 2021, has not worked out for either party with the full-back spending two consecutive seasons out on loan. Another in Pablo Mari, who cost £8m, is no longer at the club.

However, there is one player whom Arteta brought into the club in January 2023, who has ended up becoming an integral player for the Gunners during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Jakub Kiwior’s stats in 2024

The player in question here is Polish international defender Jakub Kiwior, who has become an important player under the Spaniard this season, as Arsenal looked to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.

The 24-year-old defender has played 30 times in all competitions for the Gunners this season, with 20 of those appearances coming in the top flight, and seven in the Champions League, a competition that Arsenal were eliminated from in the quarter-final, by Bayern Munich.

Kiwior has also chipped in with some handy goal involvements this season. The Poland international, who is likely going to go to Euro 2024, went on a run of four goals and assists in five Premier League games across February and March, which included finding the back of the net against Newcastle in a 4-1 victory at home.

Competition for a place at left-back for the Gunners this season has been high, although Arteta has often struggled to find the right formula for that side. Aside from Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu have played at left-back this season.

Stats from Transfermarkt.

Despite this competition for places, Kiwior has put in some big performances across the season, something which has seen a spike in his market value going into the 2024 summer transfer window.

Kiwior’s market value in 2024

According to the market value tool by CIES Football Observatory, Kiwior has seen his transfer value rise to £34m, which is a sizeable increase compared to the sum that Arsenal paid for him in January 2023.

Indeed, the Gunners paid Kiwior’s former club Spezia £20m to acquire his services, seeing an impressive increase of £14m on his current transfer market value. This certainly reflects Kiwior’s consistent performances at left-back this season.

In fact, with that increase in his transfer value, Kiwior is now valued the same as some of Arsenal’s most important players.

Specifically, he shares the same value as the likes of Leandro Trossard and David Raya, who are also worth £34m, whilst fellow left-backs Tomiyasu and Zinchenko are valued at considerably less, at just £17m.

Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard.

Both of those players have been particularly key for Arteta this term, Trossard notably scoring 17 goals in all competitions and Raya taking home the Premier League's Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets.

Should Arsenal wish to move Kiwior on this summer, it would be a deal which they can likely make a profit from. Whilst a transfer seems highly unlikely given Kiwior’s impressive season, it is certainly a deal Arsenal may consider if they can strengthen at left-back as a result of a departure.

Without a doubt, the deal to bring the defender in can be seen as a success from Arsenal. He was described as "extraordinary" by Poland teammate Robert Lewandowski, and this season he has shown why. Kiwior's cost, performances this season and subsequent rise in transfer value are testament to that, and overall it has been a good piece of business by the Gunners.

Liverpool pushing for "great" new striker who’s more clinical than Nunez

As Liverpool prepare to enter a new era without Jurgen Klopp for the first time in nine years, reports suggest that Michael Edwards and FSG are ready to make a statement in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool transfer news

Change is afoot at Anfield. The Reds will be bidding farewell to Klopp at the end of the season and all signs are now pointing towards Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who is set to be handed the almost impossible task of replacing a legend.

With a new era will come fresh faces on the pitch too, as Edwards looks to return in style this summer. And that could see the likes of Nicolo Barella arrive in what would be one of the deals of the summer. Serie A seems to be where it's at for Liverpool in that regard, with reports also linking the Reds with a major move to bolster their attacking options.

Liverpool interested in signing "quick" star who previously ruined TAA

He tore Liverpool apart in 2022…

ByTom Cunningham May 1, 2024

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Liverpool are now pushing to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. The forward, who dreams of playing in England, reportedly has a release clause of £111m, which would likely be one of the most expensive deals of the summer.

Liverpool's attack has been at the centre of criticism as of late with chances coming and quickly going for Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and even Mohamed Salah, who historically knows exactly where the back of the net is. So, a player of Osimhen's calibre would be coming at the perfect time this summer.

"Great" Osimhen is better than Nunez

As much as Nunez has shown improvement in his second season at Liverpool, question marks still remain over his ability to take Liverpool to a title win without a player of Salah's stature to lead the way. And as a number nine, that should be a concern for the Reds, especially with Salah's time at Anfield running out by the time that the summer of 2025 arrives.

That's where Osimhen would play his part, however. The main man at Napoli in their Serie A title last year, the Nigerian hasn't looked back since and has become one of the best strikers in European football.

What's most concerning about those numbers is Nunez's expected goals. Whilst Osimhen has performed fairly on the mark when it comes to goals, the Liverpool man has significantly underperformed with four, almost five fewer goals scored than expected so far this season.

Osimhen's clinical nature in front of goal would make all the difference at Anfield and would have certainly left Klopp's farewell tour racing for the top silverware. Described as "great" by former Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti, Osimhen could now realise his reported Premier League dream.
