U.S. international Tyler Adams made his presence felt in Bournemouth's 5-1 rout over Championship side West Brom in the third round of the FA Cup.

The defensive midfielder had five tackles, three clearances, and made 90.2 percent of his passes – including 62 completed and one key pass. Bournemouth appeared to be on the end of a cupset from West Brom, as the second division side scored the first goal, courtesy of Caleb Taylor in the 14th minute. Then got going. Justin Kluivert tied the game in the 27th minute and Andoni Iraola's side never looked back.

Dango Ouattara had a brace while Antoine Semenyo and Daniel Jebbison rounded out the scoring. Highly-regarded U.S. youth prospect Matai Akinmboni, formerly of MLS side D.C. United, made the bench for Bournemouth.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Adams' uptick in form selects he will likely earn a spot when the USMNT's A-team convenes for the upcoming Nations League finals in March. That would be a significant boost for Mauricio Pochettino, as Adams is one of the best defensive midfielders in soccer when he is healthy.

For Akinmboni, he might not have made his debut, but his inclusion on the matchday squad suggests he might be utilized way earlier than what was expected for the 18-year-old following his arrival from MLS.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The last time Adams made a USMNT appearance was at the Copa America, where the Americans bowed out in the Group Stage. He has since missed time due to injury.

Liverpool thought they had the new Gerrard, but he left under Klopp for £0

Every single Liverpool supporter will forever be indebted to Jürgen Klopp for his efforts in transforming the club during his nine-year spell at the helm.

The German arrived back in October 2015, with the club in an awful position under former boss Brendan Rodgers, with the former Borussia Dortmund coach injecting new life into the squad.

His man management along with his dealings in the transfer market allowed for a huge transformation, taking the club to heights they hadn’t experienced in many years.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Klopp won a Champions League title, whilst also falling to two separate defeats against Real Madrid in the final. He also clinched the club’s first-ever Premier League title back in the 2019/20 campaign.

The 57-year-old managed to achieve all of the success without a club legend who departed Anfield just months before his appointment on Merseyside.

Steven Gerrard’s time at Liverpool

Midfielder Steven Gerrard broke through the Liverpool academy back in the 1998/99 season as a fresh-faced 18-year-old, with his achievements unimaginable at the time of his debut.

Steven Gerrard.

The box-to-box midfielder quickly captured the hearts of many on Merseyside with his talent and desire to succeed for his boyhood club shining through in his displays on the pitch.

He rapidly developed at Anfield, becoming the club’s captain in 2003 at just 23, making himself a regular in the first team.

Gerrard played an influential role in the club’s Champions League triumph back in 2005, coming back from 3-0 against AC Milan, to secure a victory on penalties thanks to the heroics of Jerzy Dudek.

Fast-forward to 2015, the then 35-year-old announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, after amassing 710 appearances for the Reds, achieving a tally of 186 goals and 155 assists.

The midfielder won 11 major titles during his time as a player for his boyhood club, arguably the best player of the club’s modern era, with his appearance tally making him the club’s third-highest appearance maker in their history.

His departure left a huge hole in the club’s midfield, but a couple of years after he moved on, they thought they had landed themselves a new version of the fan-favourite.

The player who could’ve been Liverpool’s new Gerrard

In the summer of 2017, Liverpool secured a £35m deal to sign midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal in an attempt to bolster the heart of Klopp’s side.

Many thought he could be the perfect player to finally replace Gerrard, with former Gunners boss Arsène Wenger previously claiming he possessed all the qualities of the former Reds talent:

“Alex’s future will be in central midfield – or even deeper. He has good quality to distribute and penetrate individually and has similar qualities to Steven Gerrard.”

Liverpool's former midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

During his first season at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain showed glimpses of his talent, scoring five goals from midfield during his debut campaign at the club.

However, his time under Klopp was plagued with injuries preventing him from reaching his potential and emulating the fan-favourite – with his ACL injury in his first season setting the tone for his time with the Reds.

‘The Ox’ subsequently left Liverpool on a free transfer, joining Turkish side Besiktas at the end of the 2022/23 season after making 146 appearances for the club in all competitions.

It’s a real shame that the move never worked out for the talented Englishman, with the ace showing real glimpses during his early days at Anfield.

Despite leaving the club, there’s hope that he can put his injury issues behind him and hopefully kick on and regain the form that saw him thrive during his opening season on Merseyside.

PCB launches parental support policy for all cricketers

Women cricketers will get up to 12 months of paid leave, while male cricketers can get up to 30 days’ leave

Umar Farooq04-May-2021The PCB has launched a parental support policy, which will allow players – women and men – to get paid leave during periods of pregnancy and upon the birth of a child. Women will get up to 12 months of paid leave, with men allowed 30 days. All players can benefit from the scheme immediately, and it will start with Bismah Maroof, who recently took an indefinite break to prepare for motherhood.”The PCB has a duty of care towards its cricketers and, at every turn, it has taken measures to support them,” Wasim Khan, the PCB chief executive officer, said. “In this relation, it is appropriate that we have a player-friendly parental support policy so that our professional cricketers can feel fully supported during an important stage in their lives, without worrying about their careers.”To have this policy for our women cricketers was even more significant. Women play a pivotal role in the development of society and our women cricketers have brought us laurels and recognition on the world stage. Now that we have a maternity leave policy, I am hopeful that it will attract more women and girls to take up the sport as this will help them strike a crucial work-life balance.”The PCB’s central contracts don’t have any specific clauses covering parental leave. But the Maroof example has encouraged the PCB to look for an opportunity to review the contract clauses, making it more progressive. The term of the present annual contracts, for both men and women, ends in two months but the policy stands effective for any contracted player.Apart from the paid leave, contracted women cricketers are guaranteed contract extension for the following year even after 12 months away. For men, the one-month leave has to be availed within the first 56 days of the birth of the child.Women’s cricket took off properly in an organised fashion in Pakistan in the late 1990s. But several women cricketers have left the game after marrying or having children. There are exceptions. Batool Fatima became a coach, while Nain Abidi did play after getting married in 2017. Asmavia Iqbal retired from her playing career after marriage and took up a role as a selector. The new policy hopes to prolong women’s cricketing careers with the flexibility offered following the birth of children.Key features of the policy
Women cricketers to transfer to a non-playing role until the commencement of their maternity leave leading up to the birth of their child Women cricketers are entitled to take up to 12 months of paid maternity leave and will be guaranteed a contract extension for the following year, in line with their existing contractual arrangements Upon conclusion of the maternity leave, the player will be reintegrated into cricketing activities and provided adequate medical and physical support in respect of their post-childbirth rehabilitation If a woman player is required to travel for cricketing activities, the PCB will support the player by allowing her to travel with a support person of her choice to assist in caring for her infant child, with the travel and accommodation costs to be shared equally Upon conclusion of the maternity leave, the player will be reintegrated into cricketing activities and provided adequate medical and physical support in respect of their post-childbirth rehabilitation

Dudu deu lançamento para Rony. O camisa 7 ganhou a disputa deRicardo Silva e chutou no cantinho. Vuaden invalidou o gol por um suposto toque de mão do atacante, mas após consultar o VAR, o árbitro validou o tento. Esse foi apenas o segundo gol de Rony na temporada.

Ashwin, Ishant confident of India's batting depth for fifth-day chase

“Even if some parts of my body are not responding, I can really keep going,” says Ashwin about injury fears

Varun Shetty08-Feb-20212:35

R Ashwin: ‘I want to keep bowling as long as I’m bowling well’

The Indian team seems fairly confident about what they’re dealing with on the last day of this Test: they need 381 to win with nine wickets in hand, and going by the reflections of R Ashwin and Ishant Sharma at the end of day four, the possibility of victory is not something they have discounted. Ishant suggested that India’s batting line up could easily scale down the daunting target, while Ashwin – who batted nearly 30 overs in an 80-run stand with Wahsington Sundar – suggested that the pitch would play nicely on the last day.”I think it all depends how we start up tomorrow,” Ishant said in a chat right after the day’s play with Star Sports. “If we get a good start, then I’m sure we can chase this down, because we have a batting line-up who are very fearless. So we are obviously very positive about this, so it’s just about the start, and then we look how we go through the innings.”India have had to play catch-up on all four days of this Test so far, having lost the toss and conceded 578 before they were bowled out for 337 on Monday. Heading into day five on a pitch that has shown some signs of the ball keeping low, Ashwin suggested that India aren’t worried too much about it, particularly about how it might assist James Anderson and Jofra Archer.”I think even in the first innings Jassi [Bumrah] got a couple of lbws,” Ashwin said when it was pointed out that Bumrah got a few deliveries to stay low on Monday. “There are a few things we need to understand when it comes to Jassi’s bowling. The arm path is different to what Anderson and Archer have. And these two [Bumrah and Ishant] are exponents of subcontinent conditions, they’ve been playing cricket in India. So I think it’s a facet of the game that goes unnoticed or unobserved from the outside, which I think might not necessarily happen. We think the wicket will play nicely.”The game seemed to be headed towards trial-by-spin territory by the fourth afternoon•BCCIIndia’s famous returns in the recently concluded Australia series included a chase of 407 in Sydney on the last day, which they pursued until injuries forced them to shut shop at 334 for 5, and a successful chase of 328 in the last session in Brisbane. Some of the central figures of those final-day efforts are part of the XI currently taking on England, including Ashwin himself. Whether that fact had anything to do with England’s conservative batting towards the end of their second innings, Ashwin said he wasn’t sure about.”I think the approach was something we probably expected, that they’ll try and put up 430-440 on the board, so we were also trying to manage our roles accordingly,” he said.”I think they had two options in front of them in the morning. They could have asked us to follow on…the only reason I can see [for not doing that], is they wanted to give a bit of a rest to their bowlers, which is a part of the game that sometimes is not very well understood from the outside. So that could have been the thinking in wanting to bat again and give the bowlers rest, because sometimes fresh bowlers can do the trick more than tiring bowlers.”The option to enforce a follow on, with a lead of 241, is something Ashwin and Sundar briefly believed they could completely take out of England’s hands, he said. The two Tamil Nadu batsmen, both playing on their home ground, were well placed to understand this pitch, he said. In what could be a nod to Ishant’s beliefs about this batting line-up, Ashwin also said Sundar is a special batsman.”We actually did believe that we can wipe out the follow on and go on big, because we’ve played on pitches here, both Washi and I, and we sort of understand how it can be slow and we can pick our shots and pick our battles properly. In fact, we had got nicely settled, but I thought the ball bounced a little too much on that particular delivery [the one that dismissed him]. But having grown up playing club cricket in Chennai, playing spin, it’s one facet of the game that anyone coming from this part will do really well.”Washi’s a fantastic batsman. I feel a lot of people going by the T20 format, where he plays No. 7, don’t recognise the batting talent. He’s quite a special batsman.”

“When it comes to bowling, it’s the joy I have. Even if some parts of my body are not responding, I can really keep going. That’s really how much I really love my art.”R ASHWIN

Ashwin ended the day with his 28th five-wicket haul in Tests, with figures of 6 for 61, and a total of nine wickets in a Test where he has had to bowl 72.4 overs and bat 91 balls so far. Ashwin had missed India’s last Test through an aggravated back injury, but said the mammoth spell in Chennai’s heat and its effects on his body, didn’t occur to him. Bowling all day was a joy, he said.”I’ve seen a few interesting observations on what people think might happen and might not happen,” he said on being asked about his back. “But as a cricketer, that’s the last thing that’ll go through my head. For me, part and parcel of my club cricket days was bowling 35-40 overs in a day and probably going back again to the nets and bowl. When it comes to bowling, it’s the joy I have.”Even if some parts of my body are not responding, I can really keep going. That’s really how much I really love my art. I wouldn’t even go that route and think. My body today morning was pretty fresh and I wanted to come out and bat, so I just want to keep bowling as long as I’m doing it.”

The South African’s third child is due to be born soon but he is open to a return to the Heat in the future

AB de Villiers will not return to the BBL with the Brisbane Heat this season due to the imminent birth of his third child and the complexities created by Covid-19, although the club have re-signed Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.De Villiers’ signing was announced to much fanfare last season as he played six matches for the Heat although his returns were middling with 146 runs at 24.33. He is currently enjoying an impressive IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Heat hope he can return in the future.”While things initially looked fine for him to come back, there have been a few factors emerge which have changed everyone’s plans,” coach Darren Lehmann said. “The main one, aside from the challenges represented by Covid-19 and international travel, is that AB and his wife Danielle are expecting their third child very soon.ALSO READ: New Zealand-New South Wales air bubble could help bring top West Indies players to BBL”Naturally we’re very pleased for them and know that the next few months will be a very special time for all. We’ll stay in contact and see what develops. He has been in excellent touch in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, so he obviously remains a player we’d like to keep working with when the circumstances allow.”Had de Villiers joined the BBL he would have been required to undergo 14 days quarantine in a hotel room before being able to link up with the Heat squad.”It’s exciting for Danielle and me with the arrival of our new baby very soon,” he said. “So with a young, growing family, and the uncertainty around travel and conditions due to Covid-19, we reluctantly decided it wasn’t going to be this season.”The Heat were great to us last summer and I am very open to returning to the club in the future. The team didn’t get the results we were hoping for and I consider there is some unfinished business to deal with.”Mujeeb, meanwhile, will play his third season for the Heat. He is part of the Kings XI Punjab squad at the IPL although has only made two wicketless outings at the tournament. However, his form at the CPL, where he claimed 16 wickets at 13.56 and an economy of 5.29 on surfaces heavily in favour of spin, has encouraged Lehmann.”He’s doing a lot of the little things as well as anyone, and his control and maturity have gone to a new level, I believe,” Lehmann said. “He was outstanding in the Caribbean Premier League recently when he was the second leading wicket-taker in the competition, and he’s shown in the IPL that he can handle the very best.”We’re very pleased to have him back with us and with the BBL schedule potentially looking quite different to the usual format, his versatility and ability to create chances in a range of conditions will be very important for us.”The Heat also have England’s Tom Banton in their squad and teams will be allowed to field three overseas players in their XIs for the next two seasons. The schedule for the BBL has yet to be confirmed but is expected to be announced shortly after the Australia-India dates are rubberstamped.

According to , the club’s hierarchy is already working behind the scenes to recruit a worthy successor and have set their sights on Amorim, who has already been on the radar of top European clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool.
