Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister, has been arrested in Islamabad. He was scheduled to appear at the Islamabad High Court to apply for bail in a number of cases that had required his presence, though local media reported that he has not been arrested for a charge for which he was appearing in court on Tuesday.The arrest warrant, seen by ESPNcricinfo states that Imran has been “accused of commission of the offense of corruption and corrupt practices” under a section of the National Accountability Ordinance.At approximately 2:15pm local time, Imran was arrested by, according to local media, the Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary federal law enforcement corps in Pakistan. He was handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation. Section 144, a colonial-era law that prohibits large gatherings, has also been imposed in Pakistan’s capital.Islamabad Police released a statement from their Inspector General on Twitter saying Imran had been arrested in the Al Qadir University case, an institution he founded as prime minister in 2019 and where he remains chairman. The allegations centre around the alleged involvement of the former prime minister and his wife in the university being donated the land it stands on by the influential Pakistani businessman and real estate giant Malik Riaz. The UK’s National Crime Agency seized assets worth £190m from Riaz in December 2019 and returned them to Pakistan and it is alleged links between the land allotted for the university and what the Pakistan government did with those funds that is unclear but has been the subject of a government investigative committee.Related

The current federal government in Pakistan, which replaced Imran’s government in April 2022 after a vote of no confidence, has often called for his arrest, as have several courts over the past year. There were two separate concerted attempts to arrest him from his residence in March, where police were thwarted by huge numbers of supporters gathered outside his residence to help him resist arrest. Several senior figures of Imran’s PTI party (Pakistan’s Movement for Justice) have been arrested over the last year, on charges the party says are spurious. They have all been subsequently released.Pakistan’s Supreme Court had ordered elections in Punjab, the country’s largest province, to be held on May 14, a few weeks after the constitutional mandate for the caretaker government, set up in the province in January, expired. The ruling party had rejected calls for those elections to be held in defiance of that order.Several polls have shown Imran holding a clear lead as the most popular politician in the country, and he has accused the government of thwarting Pakistani citizens’ democratic rights by refusing to hold elections.”The government and its backers are petrified of elections because so far in the last eight months, out of the 37 by elections, my party has won 30 out of them,” Imran told in March.”They want to either arrest or disqualify me because they are scared [of the fact] that my party is one of the most popular in Pakistan’s history,” he said then, as attempts to arrest him from his residence in Lahore were underway.The development escalates an already unstable political climate in the country. O JOGO

Em casa, o Flamengo iniciou a partida buscando o ataque. Logo aos quatro minutos, a primeira boa oportunidade criada pelo Rubro-Negro. Petterson tocou para Werton na entrada da área e o atacante bateu rasteiro. A bola passou rente à trave.

O Bahia, por sua vez, encontrava dificuldades para sair tocando a bola no campo de defesa para o ataque, devido à marcação sob pressão feita pela equipe rubro-negra. Aos 11′, Daniel Cabral soltou uma bomba da entrada da área e obrigou o goleiro a mandar para escanteio. Na sequência, Mateusão recebeu na área e chutou forte, mas a bola carimbou a trave.

O Flamengo rodava a bola de pé em pé em busca de espaços na defesa do Bahia. Na reta final da primeira etapa, o jogo diminuiu de intensidade. Até que aos 42′, o clube abriu o marcador. Werton abriu para Wesley na direita, que cruzou rasteiro de primeira para Pedro Arthur só empurrar para as redes: 1 a 0.

A segunda etapa mal começou e o Fla ampliou a vantagem com um golaço. Werton, aberto na direita, cruzou na medida para Mateusão emendar uma linda bicicleta. Um lindo gol do centroavante rubro-negro: 2 a 0.

Não deu tempo nem para respirar. Aos 8′, o Fla marcou o terceiro novamente com Mateusão. Após bola alçada na área, o centroavante subiu de cabeça para marcar seu segundo gol no jogo: 3 a 0.

Chelsea are rumoured favourites to re-sign Guehi, after the centre-back departed Stamford Bridge for £18 million in 2021, but another Premier League star is also thought to be high on their transfer shortlist.

Bournemouth starlet Dean Huijsen has starred under Andoni Iraola for the Cherries this season, and news of a release clause in his contract is reportedly motivating clubs to seriously consider a move for the Spain international this summer.

Chelsea are expected to make a serious push for Huijsen, with Spanish news outlet Sport now claiming that they’ve already begun to lay the groundwork.

The website and journalist Fermin de la Calle reports Chelsea have approached Bournemouth over signing Huijsen, as have PSG, Man United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but Maresca has done serious homework on the player.

The Blues boss has strong connections to the defender through Malaga, and he’s been in “direct contact” with Huijsen’s representatives “for years”.

Maresca is also apparently very acquainted with the coaches who worked with Bournemouth’s star youngster in the youth academy at Malaga, and while Real are working hard to get close to the player through his agents, Chelsea’s manager is already there and has been for a long time.

This is why Real aren’t counting their chickens just yet in the race for Huijsen, as Chelsea and Maresca specifically pose a serious threat to them.

The 19-year-old, whose exit clause stands at around £42 million according to this report, is being continuously linked with an exit from the Vitality Stadium, and Bournemouth expert Mark Mitchener admits that his exit is a possibility.

“If his release clause doesn’t come into play until the summer at least you know you’ve got four, five months left of him,” said Mitchener.

“If Bournemouth are in a position at the end of the season where they will play in Europe next year, then you would like to think he would want to stay unless a team came in and offered him a deal too good to turn down.

“He made the decision to come to Bournemouth as a 19-year-old and not wait for a bigger club even though people were saying very nice things about him so he wants to play. He’s doing a very good job of it.

“I’d like to think the club can keep him, but with some of the very best young players in the world it’s very difficult to tell what will happen.”

Right from the moment he drilled the first ball of the Ashes – from Pat Cummins at Edgbaston – for four, Zak Crawley has looked in the mood to repay the unequivocal faith that he’s been shown by Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum since the start of the Bazball era.On the second day at Old Trafford, he delivered on that promise with an extraordinary innings of 189 from 182 balls – an innings that took the attack to Australia’s bowlers in such an uncompromising fashion that, weather permitting, England already seem to be on course for an Ashes-squaring victory.And speaking to Sky Sports at the close, Crawley acknowledged that his pedal-to-the-metal approach had been causing him some moments of self-doubt, in spite of the relentless positive reinforcement that emanates from England’s dressing-room. However, this performance, with the series on the line, made all the harder times worthwhile.”Today was good day for us. We are in a good position as a team,” Crawley said after England had rattled along to 382 for 4, a lead of 67. “It was good fun. I rode my luck at times but hit some good shots along the way.”I do doubt myself at times but I have to say ‘keep being me’,” he added. “That is the way I play. I am quite streaky but then I go on a run. They [coach and captain] tell me to go out and have an impact at the top of the order. Sometimes I am going to have streaks of a low scores, because I’m taking a punt, but thankfully today it came off.”Speaking last summer, in the midst of a run of low scores that had left Crawley’s career average in the mid-20s and his place under media scrutiny, McCullum declared that his “skillset is not to be a consistent cricketer”. Since his series-sealing half-century against South Africa at The Oval, however, Crawley has now racked up 820 runs at 43.15 and a strike rate a notch below 90, while his first Ashes century lifted him to the top of the run-charts for the series, with 385 from 428 balls at 55.00.”They don’t want me to lose days like today,” Crawley added. “If I try to be more consistent, maybe I wouldn’t have a day like today. I much prefer this, a few low scores and then a big one. [Criticism] is definitely fair, because I haven’t been consistent, but I think I’ve shown that, at my best, I’m good enough for this level. I was pleased with how it went. That was more my template.As with that first-ball boundary at Edgbaston, Crawley’s innings was once again notable for his pre-meditated aggression, not least his first-ball reverse-sweep for four that helped to drive the part-time spin of Travis Head out of Australia’s attack after just six overs for 48. “It’s definitely a conscious effort to take them down, because obviously they are great bowlers who are trying to rest [between spells],” Crawley said. “When those bowlers come on, I think it’s important to put them under pressure and so that doesn’t give them time to rest and come back. I’d try to bat time and build an innings like [Joe] Root or any of those guys up there, but it’s much better when I put the bowler under a bit more pressure before they can get me. Sometimes it comes off, and sometimes it doesn’t.”Crawley’s innings will not have convinced all of his doubters, however, even though it has now enabled his average to poke above 30 for the first time since March 2022. By the time he was dismissed, his control percentage, according to ESPNcricinfo’s database, was 70.88%, having been in the mid-60s for much of his knock. On several occasions, he inside-edged past his own stumps for four, while a number of flashes outside off flew over the slips for further boundaries.The man himself, was unrepentant about the good fortune. “I’ve had a lot of nicks over the slips this series,” he said. “And actually, I don’t think that’s good luck. I’ve earned that luck. If you go harder, the ball goes over the slips. So I’d rather err on that side then go negative.”In the course of his onslaught, Crawley brought up his hundred from 93 balls – the second fastest at Old Trafford in Ashes history. And the acclaim he received for the achievement was in stark contrast to his last century in England, his epic 267 against Pakistan in 2020, which was played behind closed doors at the Ageas Bowl due to the pandemic.”The crowd were amazing,” he said. “Obviously I hadn’t scored a hundred in England, apart from in Covid, so there was no-one to clap me off there. While Crawley was at the crease, particularly during an astonishing afternoon session in which England racked up 178 runs in 25 overs, a total of 500 in the day seemed on the cards. However, as the ball got older and softer, the going became rather tougher for England – with both Crawley himself and, most notably, Root, succumbing to deliveries that kept visibly low.”The ball definitely went soft. They were trying to change it a lot and it was definitely out of shape, which made it two-paced,” Crawley said. “Joe was so unlucky. That wicket was unplayable and even Stokesy had a couple of pop up at him and keep low. So it might be the oldness of the ball, but hopefully it’s the wicket, and hopefully it keeps playing tricks and we bowl well [in the second innings].”Before then, however, there’s a lead for England to build, and the potential for a declaration given that the weather forecast for the weekend is not entirely promising.”I’ll leave that to the bosses up there,” Crawley said, “but if we can get another 130-140, it’ll be really good. تتواصل فصول الأزمة بين الحارس مارك أندريه تير شتيجن وإدارة نادي برشلونة، في ظل تمسك اللاعب بالبقاء داخل صفوف الفريق، رغم استبعاده من حسابات المدرب هانز فليك للموسم الجديد.

ورغم نية برشلونة الواضحة في الاستغناء عن تير شتيجن وعدم الاعتماد عليه إلا في حال تعرض خوان جارسيا وفويتشيك تشيزني للإصابة أو الإيقاف، فإن الحارس الألماني قرر خوض معركته حتى النهاية، رافضًا التخلي عن عقده الممتد حتى 2028.

وبحسب الصحف الكتالونية وعلى رأسها “موندو ديبورتيفو” و”سبورت”، فإن تير شتيجن يرفض فكرة الرحيل مجانًا أو على سبيل الإعارة ما لم يحصل على مستحقاته كاملة عن السنوات الثلاث المتبقية، على غرار ما فعله النادي سابقًا مع نجم السلة نيكولا ميورتيتش.

اللاعب الذي عاد مبكرًا من عطلته في اليونان ومايوركا، سيخضع للفحوصات الطبية مع الفريق، مؤكدًا رغبته في القتال على مركزه الأساسي، ومقتنعًا بأنه قادر على التفوق بدنيًا وفنيًا على باقي حراس الفريق.

وتشير تقارير إلى أن العلاقة بين الطرفين توترت بسبب ما وصفه تير شتيجن بتسريبات داخلية تهدف لتشويه صورته والضغط عليه لمغادرة الفريق، خاصة بعد التعاقد مع حارس شاب واعتباره مشروعًا طويل المدى.

ورغم اهتمام أندية مثل جالطة سراي وموناكو وإنتر ميلان ومانشستر يونايتد بخدماته، رفض تير شتيجن الدخول في أي مفاوضات، متمسكًا بمكانه في برشلونة إلى حين اتضاح الرؤية في يناير.

الحارس الألماني يدرك أن مشاركته بانتظام خلال الأشهر المقبلة ستكون حاسمة لحفاظه على مكانه كحارس أول في منتخب ألمانيا بقيادة يوليان ناجلسمان، مع اقتراب كأس العالم 2026.

وفي حال استمر التهميش الرياضي له، قد يفكر تير شتيجن لاحقًا في الإعارة أو الانتقال الحر، بشرط إيجاد نادٍ يمنحه ضمانات المشاركة، وهو ما سيُعيده إلى الواجهة تمهيدًا لتحقيق هدفه الدولي الأكبر.
