A defeat on derby day is always something of a disaster, but Manchester City’s loss to Manchester United yesterday afternoon was something else entirely.

Pep Guardiola’s side are going through a crisis the likes of which they haven’t experienced under the Spanish coach before.

The Citizens have now lost eight of their last 11 games and look a shadow of their former selves, and yesterday was no exception.

There were poor performances across the pitch for the hosts, but two players, including Matheus Nunes, stood out for all the wrong reasons.

Now, the first thing to say is that much of the blame for Nunes’ poor showing should be shouldered by Guardiola, as injuries to the squad saw him start the Brazilian at left-back, which is a position he had never played before.

With that said, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers’ inexperience cannot be used as an excuse for his lack of impact throughout most of the game nor his costly mistakes at the end.

For example, while the team as a whole must face the blame for losing last night, it was the 26-year-old who gave away the equalising penalty for a foul on Amad Diallo, who had intercepted his lazy backpass.

Then, less than two minutes later, he failed to get back and clear the Ivorian’s match-winning effort off the line despite appearing to have the time to do so.

Unsurprisingly, such a display saw GIVEMESPORT’s Kerrie Jacobs-Bryant award him a 4/10, which seems more than fair considering his mistakes.

However, while Nunes turned a mediocre performance into a disastrous one in the final five minutes, one of his teammates was poor for the entire game and must not start for City again.

The City dud worse than Nunes

Now, as we said earlier, there were underwhelming performances all over the pitch for the hosts last night, but the worst was undoubtedly Kyle Walker.

The City captain has been lacklustre for some time now, but was notably poor yesterday.

The former Tottenham Hotspurs star was utterly ineffective going forward and, like Nunes, was a disaster in defence, strolling into the box for Diallo’s winning goal.

In fact, the most notable thing he did during the game was feign a head injury during his confrontation with Rasmus Hojlund, an incident Roy Keane said must have left him feeling “embarrassed” after the game.

Such a display left Jacobs-Bryant equally unimpressed, as she awarded the Englishman a 4/10 match rating at full-time and doubled down on the ’embarrasing’ nature of the Hojlund incident.

However, when we look at his statistics from the game, it can be argued that the 4/10 rating is still too generous.

For example, in his 96 minutes of action, the Sheffield-born defender amassed an expected assists figure of 0.03, made just one block, one tackle and one clearance, lost 50% of his ground duels, lost the ball a staggering 20 times, maintained a passing accuracy of just 76%, misplaced nine of 11 long passes and failed 50% of his dribbles.

Ultimately, while the entire City team were poor against United yesterday, Nunes, and particularly Walker, stood out as the worst of the worst, and while the Brazilian may have to keep his place in the team, Pep must drop the Englishman.

They beat the home side by 38 runs, following a team effort that included three fifties that set up a total of 314 for 7, and two bowlers taking three wickets or more.David Miller was Bangladesh’s last stumbling block but when the left-hander fell in the 46th over, it was all but over for the home side. Miller was stopped at 79 off 57 balls, at a time when he was striking a boundary almost every over. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who gave Tamim Iqbal a bit of a headache after an expensive first spell, ended up taking four wickets including the one of Miller. But Taskin Ahmed was Bangladesh’s best bowler, with figures of 3 for 36.He struck twice in the first nine overs as Bangladesh struck three early blows. Shoriful Islam had Janneman Malan caught behind, before Taskin jammed one into Kyle Verreynne’s pads, plumb in front, and then had Aiden Markram caught at point for a three-ball duck.Temba Bavuma and van der Dussen took stock of the dire situation, and slowly rebuilt the chase with an 85-run stand. وعند العودة للحديث عن برشلونة، علّق ميسي على سنواته الأولى: “دائمًا أقول إن أول غرفة ملابس دخلتها كانت استثنائية، أنا ممتن جدًا للاستقبال الذي وجدته من الجميع، رونالدينيو، ديكو، سيلفينيو، بالإضافة إلى تشافي وإنييستا الذين كانوا موجودين، وبويول، كانت هناك أسماء كبيرة والفريق كان رائعًا”.

وأشار: “الوصول إلى النهائي (ضد ألمانيا) دون التتويج كان عذابًا بالنسبة لي، الفوز بالبطولة لاحقًا جعل كل شيء أخف وطأة، وأصبح تقبّله مختلفًا تمامًا، كان من الممكن أن أفوز بكأسين للعالم، لكنني الآن أملك كأس العالم”.

وأفاد: “كأس العالم ما زالت بعيدة، لكنها ستمر بسرعة كبيرة، هذا العام سيكون مهمًا جدًا، المهم أن أواصل اللعب بانتظام، وأن أشعر أنني بخير”.

وأوضح: “في العام الماضي بدأت فترة الإعداد بتعرضي لبعض الإصابات، أما هذا العام، فقد خضت فترة إعداد جيدة، وبدأت الموسم بشكل جيد، وأشعر أنني في حالة جيدة”.

وأتم ميسي: “لكن الموسم طويل، لأنه لن ينته إلا في ديسمبر، وهناك كأس العالم للأندية أيضًا، أفكر وأراقب، لكن لا أريد أن أضع أهدافًا مسبقة، أعيش كل يوم بيومه، وأراقب كيف أشعر بدنيًا، وأكون صادقًا مع نفسي”.

Passar o aniversário como jogador do Botafogo
– Meu aniversário é algo especial, já tinha um tempo que não passava aqui no Brasil. Passei todo com a minha família, todo mundo estava aqui no Rio, um grande presente de aniversário, foi bem especial mesmo. Estava acostumado a passar no frio, ficar no calor foi bem bacana. Sobre os jogadores só não tive contato com o Matheus porque ele estava na Seleção, mas o resto é de muita qualidade, é questão de tempo para fazer ajustes, é coisa de uma semaninha, vai ser fácil de encaixar.

Seleção
– Seleção Brasileira é muito consequência daquilo que você faz no clube. Meu foco é o Botafogo. Não sou conhecido no Brasil, mas muita gente me conhece na Europa. Ao aceitar o projeto foi para mostrar meu potencial para o projeto e crescer junto com esse Botafogo. Seleção é o sonho de todo jogador, mas é consequência. É focar no trabalho e focar no trabalho comigo e Botafogo.

When Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag they will have been hoping for a clean takeover, one lacking drama and instead, focused on on-pitch matters.

Ruben Amorim has, at least, chatted a good game but the drama has still been forthcoming.

That’s largely centred around ongoing affairs surrounding Marcus Rashford.

The United winger scored the first goal of the Amorim era but things haven’t all gone his way since that 1-1 draw with Ipswich.

The new manager happened to leave Rashford out of the squad when United defeated their arch-rivals City last weekend and he was left out again for the 4-3 loss against Spurs in the Carabao Cup.

Why? Well, an interview with journalist Henry Winter can’t have helped in midweek where the winger made it clear that he was seeking a new challenge.

So, where could he go? There are a few irons in the fire.

Who Marcus Rashford could sign for

In recent years that have been rumours of a move to PSG but we are yet to get much information on whether the French side would entertain a move at this stage.

However, there are now reports suggesting that Barcelona are an interested party.

According to Football Transfers, the Spanish giants have made contact with the Red Devils regarding a move for the English forward.

They have reportedly admired Rashford for some time now and club president Joan Laporta is keen to jump upon any market opportunity that may emerge in January.

The report states that Barca would like to sign the player on loan with a view to then acquiring him on a permanent basis, having allegedly lodged a bid of around £35m as part of the deal.

What the move would mean for Man Utd and Rashford

Despite the fact that United look happy to get rid of the attacker in 2025, this would be a seismic deal not just for English football, but for European football too.

The Premier League side would be getting rid of one of the division’s top earners in a dramatic situation that has perhaps escalated far beyond what Amorim would have imagined.

This is the poster boy for the football club but his career has not reached the potential so many thought it would get to.

Only two seasons ago he was producing a campaign in which he registered nearly 40 goal involvements but 2023/24 wasn’t too kind to the England international who scored just eight goals and then missed out on a place at the European Championships.

A fresh move could be what it takes to revive the career of one of the finest talents to come through Carrington.

In truth, it could be a deal akin to David Beckham’s departure in the summer of 2003.

An England great – he headed to Spain in one of the most surprising moves we’ve seen during the last 20 years or so.

Like Rashford, he was an academy boy and was one of the greatest players we saw under the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. However, after a falling out behind the scenes between manager and player, a situation that perhaps echoes the current one at Old Trafford, he sought pastures new.

Beckham never really wanted to leave and if you asked Rashford the same question, he would likely never choose to depart his boyhood club. However, in a situation like this, needs must.

The former England skipper only broadened his profile while in the Spanish capital and very quickly became a global icon. He was a trailblazer for the English game, moving to LaLiga and being part of the famous Galacticos squad of that era.

Rashford, of course, may not be heading for Madrid but Barcelona are just as big and would lay the platform for the English talent to reinvigorate what has been a stuttering career over the last 18 months or so.

هذه ليست المرة الأولى التي يرتبط فيها اسم بن رمضان بالانتقال إلى الأندية المصرية، حيث كان هناك تفاوض سابق بين الأهلي وفيرنسفاروش ولكن لم يتوصلا لاتفاق في الصيف الماضي.

ولكن في الأيام الماضية، خرجت بعض الشائعات عن سفر اللاعب ووكيله إلى القاهرة للتفاوض مع نادي بيراميدز مع استمرار اهتمام الأهلي.

وكشف مصدر مقرب من اللاعب الحقيقة وموقف التونسي في فيرنسفاروش لـ بطولات: “ليس صحيحًا على الإطلاق أن اللاعب أو وكيله سيسافران إلى مصر من أجل التفاوض مع أي نادٍ”.

وأضاف: “لم يتواصل معنا أحد من الدوري المصري سواء الأهلي أو بيراميدز، ولا نعرف مصدر شائعات السفر إلى القاهرة”.

وأشار المصدر إلى أن عقد بن رمضان مع ناديه فيرنسفاروش ينتهي بعد موسم واحد فقط في يونيو 2026، وقال: “النادي المجري يرغب في تمديده لمدة عامين آخرين”.

ومع ذلك، أوضح المصدر أن هناك بعض الأشياء التي تؤثر على مستقبل اللاعب: “لكن الأمر بالنسبة لنا مختلف بعض الشيء، لأن المدرب روبي كين لا يعتمد على بن رمضان في الوقت الحالي، وجلوسه على مقاعد البدلاء في أغلب المباريات الأخيرة أيضًا بسبب عدم توقيعنا على العقد الجديد وهذه تعليمات من الإدارة للضغط عليه”.

وفيما يتعلق بمستقبل اللاعب، أكد المصدر أنهم يدرسون خيارات أخرى: “نحن نبحث عن نادٍ جديد للرحيل وهناك عروض عربية لكن ليس من مصر، وأخرى أوروبية”.
