– Falta o New York City decidir pela liberação.

Arsenal given Victor Osimhen boost as journalist shares encouraging update

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their chase for Napoli star striker Victor Osimhen as an "encouraging" update comes out of Hale End.

Edu and Arteta want world-class centre-forward at Arsenal

The Gunners are playing some of their best-attacking football in years right now, scoring 25 goals in their last six Premier League games as they battle Man City and Liverpool for a first domestic crown in 20 years.

£60m defender ready to seriously consider move to Arsenal

ByEmilio Galantini Feb 24, 2024

Arsenal's imperious attacking displays since the turn of the year have re-invigorated hope they can still pip both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp to the Premier League title, but the club's flurry of goals hasn't stopped them being linked with new strikers.

Indeed, it is widely reported that Brentford star Ivan Toney is still on Arsenal's radar heading into the summer, while there have also been some links with Osimhen.

The Nigeria international put pen to paper on a new deal at Napoli in recent months, but the contract is thought to include a release clause of around £112 million.

Osimhen could be one of the biggest talking points of this summer, as he receives growing interest from England after a succession of campaigns hitting double figures in Naples.

Arsenal handed "encouraging" Osimhen update

Arsenal are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old later this year, with Emirates Stadium chiefs on the lookout for world-class attackers.

Journalist Ben Jacobs, sharing his own update on this to GiveMeSport, says don't rule out Arsenal in the race for Osimhen despite Chelsea's very serious interest – going on to share some encouragement.

Victor Osimhen for Napoli.

“We still can't rule out Arsenal in the race for Osimhen," said Jacobs.

"It’s also true that PSG have Osimhen very, very high on their list of targets and can move in the market because they will free up money due to Kylian Mbappe’s departure. I'm still told by sources that Osimhen’s priority is the Premier League, which is encouraging for Chelsea and Arsenal. He would be looking for about £250,000 per week, which Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG would all be happy to pay.”

Osimhen has bagged eight goals and two assists in just 14 league appearances this season, with Italy legend and former Roma captain Francesco Totti calling the African ace Serie A's best striker.

"The strongest striker in Serie A? Osimhen in my opinion," said Totti.

"First, because he scores, when he gets the ball, he scores. And then he makes himself available to the team. He's always in the right place at the right time.”

The former Lille marksman will almost certainly be a man in huge demand, and with the north Londoners happy to pay around £250,000-per-week for his services, it's clear how highly they rate him.

Somerset stalwart Peter Trego to leave club at end of 2019 season

Trego has scored more than 18,000 runs for the club in all formats, but lost his place in the T20 side this season

Peter Trego will leave Somerset at the end of the season, after the club decided not to renew his contract.Trego signed a white-ball-only deal for the 2019 season, after losing his regular place in the Championship side. He scored 389 runs at 35.36 in the club’s victorious Royal London Cup campaign, but was dropped from the T20 side after struggling against Rashid Khan in a defeat against Sussex.Trego, 38, has not retired from the game, and a club statement said he would “consider other opportunities”.He leaves Somerset having scored over 18,000 runs for the club in all formats and having taken more than 500 wickets since his debut in 2000.Trego originally broke into the side as a bowling allrounder, and had spells at Kent and Middlesex before re-joining Somerset in 2006. It briefly looked as though he would give up the game for a career in football, after he spent the 2004-05 season playing in goal for Margate.A prolific run-scorer in one-day cricket, he was perhaps unfortunate never to get a run in England’s limited-overs sides, having played for the Lions in 2010 before scoring over 1,000 white-ball runs across List A and T20 cricket in 2013.He took 50 Championship wickets once, in the 2012 season, but as his career progressed he began to bowl less and take his red-ball batting more seriously, making 1047 Championship runs in 2016.He was a regular in the early days of the T20 franchise circuit, spending winters in Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and New Zealand, and scored a match-winning 70 in Somerset’s win against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 which took them through to the group stage of the Champions League T20.He lifted a trophy for the club for the first time in May, having previously played in five final defeats, making 29 as Somerset beat Hampshire in the Royal London Cup.Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, said that Trego would be “remembered as one of Somerset cricket’s great characters”.”This year we have seen the emergence of several young players and this has meant that Pete’s opportunities in the first XI have been limited,” Hurry said. “He obviously wants to be playing first-team cricket, which is not something that we can guarantee him here at the moment, and therefore we feel that it is in both the club’s and Pete’s best interests for him to consider other opportunities.”Trego said: “I understand the Club’s desire to give younger players an opportunity, and whilst I’m no longer going to be a Somerset player, I will always be a Somerset fan.”It’s been a long and fantastic journey. I’ve got so many wonderful memories, but that final one-day game at Lord’s has to stand out. Walking around the ground with the trophy and long-standing teammates such as Hildy [James Hildreth] was the icing on the cake of what’s been a great time in my life.”

Provar no campo a importância desses 15 dias.

Reporter issues update on Aston Villa’s chances of sealing £64m swoop

To say that Aston Villa are flying would be an understatement, with Champions League qualification well within their sights under Unai Emery. Potentially in a better position than ever to sign Europe's top stars, Ty Bracey has issued a verdict on the Villans' chances of signing a standout duo.

Aston Villa transfer news

The Midlands club continued their pursuit of top four last time out, defeating Luton Town 3-2 after surviving the Hatters' comeback attempts. Now, their attention turns towards Ajax and a massive game in the Europa Conference League in mid-week. Away from the action, meanwhile, Villa could already be thinking about summer reinforcements.

Unai Emery has already been handed plenty of backing throughout his tenure, with the likes of Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres arriving last summer, before Morgan Rogers arrived from Middlesbrough in the January transfer window. Now, those at Villa Park could back the former Arsenal boss once again to leave them well-placed to potentially make it back-to-back Champions League qualifications.

That backing is unlikely to see Nico Williams and Inaki Williams arrive from Athletic Bilbao, however, according to Ty Bracey. He told Aston Villa News: “It is a bit of a stretch to see us signing both of them, but Nico Williams turned us down in the summer. We’re doing much better than we were last season in the grand scheme of things

"We’re sat in fourth players and that’s attractive for any player who wants to make the move to the Premier League. If we can hover around those Champions League places, it’s going to be attractive for players to want to join. I don’t know if there’s any truth in us looking to sign both of them, it could just be easy journalism because of Monchi and Emery’s links.”

If Villa do pursue deals for the Williams brothers, then they will reportedly have to spend in excess of a combined €75m (£64m) this summer, further damaging their chances of welcoming the Bilbao stars.

Williams brothers would be sensational swoop

To land one of Nico or Inaki Williams would be solid business from Aston Villa, but if they were to land both, they would be securing one of the deals of the summer transfer window. Nico Williams, still just 21-years-old, has emerged as one of La Liga's brightest talents. Inaki Williams, meanwhile, is now an experienced goalscorer ready for a big move.

The latter has had plenty of praise for his younger this season, saying via Sports World Ghana after his brother's Spain debut: “I’m not surprised by what my brother does because I’m used to seeing him practically every day, I know the capabilities he has. he is in incredible shape and I think he can give a lot to Spain. He has shown it by giving Morata a good pass and I am very happy for him.”

'I want to be the man to bring the Ashes back to England' – Joe Root

Root insists he wants to lead England in 2021-22 Ashes in Australia, while vice-captain Ben Stokes says skipper is “100 percent” the man to take side forward

Joe Root insists he wants to continue as England captain despite failing to reclaim the Ashes•Getty Images

Joe Root has said he wants to be “at the front” of England’s progression over the next three years, and thinks that he is the man to captain them to an Ashes victory in Australia in 2021-22.Root’s captaincy repeatedly came under pressure during the series. Batting in his unfavoured position of No. 3, he failed to make a hundred and was dismissed without scoring three times, though finished with an average of 32.50.He was also criticised for turning to Jofra Archer too often when seeking a breakthrough, and seemed to be struggling with the pressures of the role despite repeatedly stating his desire to continue as captain.ALSO READ: Archer’s talent must be protected and nurturedBut after leading his side to a series-levelling win at The Oval, Root told Sky: “I want to be leading this team, and be the man to bring the Ashes back to England.””We’re very much driven towards [that series]” said Root. “We’ve got two-and-a-half years to prepare very well for it. I think it’s going to be a real focus for English cricket to make sure we do everything we can to be in the best possible space for that.”I want to be at the front of that.””This week in particular it looked like we’d started to get to grips with Test cricket after a very long period of one-day cricket,” he added. “It was more of a blueprint of how we want to go about playing, but there were still things we can get better at.”We’ve got a period now and an opportunity in the next two-and-a-half years to really push and do everything we can to prepare extremely well for that tour of Australia. That’s going to be a huge focus for me and I’d like to hope for English cricket.Root added that the manner in which England squared the series at The Oval, dominating the contest despite losing the toss, augured well for how he hoped they would come together in future engagements, starting with tours of New Zealand and South Africa this winter.”I thought the performance this week was closer to where we want to be as a template moving forward in Test cricket,” he said. “I thought we drove the game pretty much the whole time from that first session on day one and that’s really pleasing.”We got ourselves in a position of strength and at no point did we really let them back in, which after a difficult week – like Manchester was – was exactly what you want, your team to step up.”Throughout the series we’ve shown a lot of character, at times we’ve been outskilled and we’ve been sloppy for the odd hour here and there which has cost us, but we’ve always fought very hard and that’s a very pleasing thing to look at moving forward.”There’s always things you want to get better at and learn from but that’s something that’s quite hard to instil in players. Hopefully that’ll be a massive stepping stone and starting point for us to kick on as a team.”Ben Stokes, who was re-appointed as Root’s vice-captain at the start of the Test summer, said that Root was “100 percent” the man to lead England forward, and paid tribute to the players that had come into the side in the past year.”Everyone who has come into the Test side in the winter and this summer has [put] their hand up and shown that they can compete at the highest level.”We’ve been challenged by some seriously good fast bowling as we’ve always known [we would be], and Rory Burns and Joe Denly as the new guys in the team have shown what they can do.”I think Rory Burns has been knocking on the door for a long time, and I think we started to see this series what he can offer.”Root echoed Stokes’ praise for the new opening pair.”They played very well throughout the series on very difficult surfaces against a very good attack,” he said. “You have to take that all into consideration – it’s been hard at the top of the order.”Guys have got stuck in at times, it’s been very difficult. They’ve stood up to it. You know, they’ve made some very valuable contributions. They should be very proud of their efforts.”Root also paid tribute to departing head coach Trevor Bayliss, hailing his contribution to England’s limited-overs set-up in particular.”Trev is brilliant,” Root said. “He’s obviously added a huge amount to this Test team. He’s been involved in some fantastic series wins, both home and away.”And what he’s done for white-ball cricket for English cricket is phenomenal. He’s very much valued in the dressing room, he’s got a great sense of humour. We all played for him this week, and I’m really pleased to send him off in a great fashion.”

George Linde replaces injured Keshav Maharaj for third Test

Cobras left-arm spinner George Linde has been called up to the squad as a replacement

Firdose Moonda13-Oct-2019

Keshav Maharaj celebrates a wicket•BCCI

Keshav Maharaj, South Africa’s premier left-arm spinner, has been ruled out of the third Test against India, which starts on Saturday in Ranchi. Maharaj sustained a shoulder injury during the second Test in Pune and will require two-to-three weeks’ recovery time. Cobras left-arm spinner George Linde has been called up to the squad as a replacement.Losing Maharaj is a major blow to South Africa, who are already 2-0 down in the three-Test series but have 40 points of the World Test Championship to still play for in the final fixture. Though Maharaj has not had the success of India’s spinners, he is South Africa’s highest wicket-taker of the series with six scalps – albeit with an average of 85.66 – and has also bowled the most number of overs. He was also one of the few players who showed fight with the bat, scoring a career-best 72 in the first innings in the second Test and featuring in a ninth-wicket stand of 109 with Vernon Philander, after he had already picked up the injury.Watch cricket on ESPN+

India v South Africa is available in the US on Hotstar and ESPN+. Subscribe to ESPN+ and tune in to the Ranchi Test.

Maharaj was bowling his 50th over in India’s only innings of the Test when he tried to stop a run after Virat Kohli punched the ball towards long-on. Maharaj fell on his right shoulder and immediately rolled over, clutching it in pain. He was treated on the field and completed the over, but left the field for scans shortly after. His first set of scans were inconclusive and he was sent for a second scan on Saturday morning when he was also required to bat. Maharaj was strapped up and batted in a marathon stand, only occasionally grimacing after attempting shoulder-intensive shots like the pull. Nonetheless, Maharaj has been diagnosed as having hurt a muscle and will not be fit in time for the Ranchi Test.South Africa have two other spinners in the squad, left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy and offspinner Dane Piedt. Both played in the first Test in Visakhapatnam, where they were largely ineffective, and Piedt was dropped for Pune. He may come into contention again for the third Test, unless the team management is after a like-for-like replacement for Maharaj, in which case Linde may make his debut.Linde has made a good start to the domestic season, which began earlier in the week, and sits atop the wicket-takers’ chart with 11 for 131 from his first match. Those figures need to be taken in context, as they were claimed on a pitch where 39 wickets fell in two days. However, Linde has been on the national selectors’ radar. He was part of the South Africa A side that toured India for a List A series prior to the senior side’s arrival, and was in the T20I squad, although he did not play a game.
